Almost all modern smartphones have a nifty feature that dims the light to save your battery and give your eyes a break. But an iPhone screen dimming randomly can be frustrating, especially when you’re particularly interested in whatever’s on your screen.

Most of the time, it’s some brightness-related or battery-saving setting to blame. Sometimes, a software issue may also be at fault.

So why does your iPhone keep dimming unexpectedly? I’ve listed some common reasons and some straightforward solutions.

Why does my iPhone keep dimming its screen?

  • Most phones are “smart” enough to guard your eyes from eye strain. These features automatically sense a change in the lighting conditions around you and, accordingly, adjust your iPhone’s screen brightness. Sometimes, this feature can backfire and cause dimming randomly.
  • If you have any battery saving feature enabled, this might be the culprit to an iPhone screen dimming by itself.
  • Aside from setting problems, software glitches, outdated software, and overheating may also cause your iPhone to dim randomly.

What to do when my iPhone screen dims randomly?

I’ve provided some helpful tips on how to stop your iPhone from dimming. Luckily, many of them are simple settings tweaks that should take next to no time at all.

  1. Disable Auto Brightness
  2. Turn off Always On Display
  3. Disable Screen Zoom
  4. Extend Auto Lock on iPhone
  5. Turn off True Tone on iPhone
  6. Disable Night Shift
  7. Disable Dark Mode on iPhone
  8. Turn on Attention Aware Features
  9. Disable Low Power Mode on iPhone
  10. Toggle off Reduce White Point
  11. Let the iPhone cool down
  12. Update your iPhone to the latest iOS
  13. Reset your iPhone

1. Disable Auto Brightness

Your iPhone typically dims its screen to adapt to ambient lighting. If auto-brightness is enabled, your iPhone will dim its light at night to prevent overwhelming your eyes and give you maximum brightness when you’re out in the sun.

Here’s how to turn it off:

  1. Open the Settings app on your iPhone → Accessibility.
  2. Select Display & Text Size.
  3. Scroll down and toggle off Auto-Brightness.

    Disable auto brightness on iphone

2. Turn off Always On Display

When enabled on your 14 Pro or later model, Always On Display dims your Lock Screen while displaying crucial information like notifications, time, and widgets. This may be why your iPhone screen dims randomly when you aren’t looking.

  1. To turn off Always On Display, go to SettingsDisplay & Brightness.
  2. Scroll down to the bottom and tap Always On Display.
  3. Toggle off Always On Display.

Turn off always on display on iphone

3. Disable Screen Zoom

Zoom is a nifty feature that magnifies the entire screen or just a portion of the screen for you. Zooming in on a particular part of the screen may make your screen seem dim.

  1. To turn Zoom off, go to SettingsAccessibilityZoom.
  2. Toggle off Zoom.

    Disable screen zoom

Instead of Zoom, you can use Magnifier on your iPhone to zoom in on objects.

4. Extend Auto Lock on iPhone

By default, your iPhone locks after 30 seconds. This security feature lets your iPhone screen stay on as long as you’re looking at it since it can detect when you’re looking at the screen. It eventually dims and locks when you look away for a while.

If you want your display to stay on longer, you can change how long it takes before your iPhone screen dims and locks:

  1. Launch SettingsDisplay & Brightness.
  2. Tap Auto-Lock.
  3. Select from the available options. You can select Never if you don’t want it to lock unless you manually lock it.

    Extend auto lock on iphone

5. Turn off True Tone on iPhone

True Tone is a feature similar to Auto-Brightness, which adapts the color of your screen based on lighting conditions surrounding you, to make colors appear consistent with your environment. The color changes can make your iPhone display seem like it’s dimming.

  1. If you don’t want this, head to SettingsDisplay & Brightness.
  2. Toggle off True Tone under Brightness.

Turn off true tone on iPhone

6. Disable Night Shift

Night Shift makes the display easier on the eyes and hopefully makes it easier for you to sleep. However, it may make it more difficult for you to look at your display at night, especially if the settings are set to very warm. To adjust this or turn the feature off entirely:

  1. Open Settings.
  2. Go to Display & Brightness.
  3. Tap Night Shift. Turn it off by toggling off Schedule.
Alternatively, set the screen to be less warm to make it less tinted and dim instead of turning it off.

Disable night shift by toggling off schedule

7. Disable Dark Mode on iPhone

The iPhone tends to have a generally bright display. Turning on Dark Mode changes your iPhone’s color scheme, adopting a black background with text shown in white.

This can offer a better viewing experience in low-light environments but appear dimmer than the iPhone’s usually bright display. Turning it off is easy:

  1. Go to SettingsDisplay & Brightness.
  2. Tick Light to disable Dark Mode.

    Disable dark mode

You can also control Dark Mode directly from your Control Center. Learn how to customize your Control Center and add the Dark Mode button.

8. Turn on Attention Aware Features

Attention Aware Features use Face ID sensors to detect if you’re looking at the screen and dim it when you’re not looking. This works with the Auto-Lock feature mentioned above.

If this feature is disabled, your iPhone will dim and turn off after the time you indicated for Auto-Lock, even when you’re looking at it. Turn it on by doing the following:

  1. Go to SettingsFace ID & Passcode.
  2. Enter your passcode.
  3. Toggle on Attention Aware Features.

    Turn on attention aware features

9. Disable Low Power Mode on iPhone

Low Power Mode will reduce or cut off certain features to save battery life when your iPhone battery drops to a certain percentage. This includes visual effects, the Auto-Lock feature, and display brightness.

This may cause sudden dimming of your iPhone screen, which can be frustrating if you’re in the middle of a visually-intensive task. Fortunately, it’s pretty easy to turn off:

  1. Open SettingsBattery.
  2. Toggle off Low Power Mode.

Disable low power mode on iphone

Alternatively, go to the Control Center and press the Low Power Mode button to deactivate it.

10. Toggle off Reduce White Point

White Point is a display feature that reduces the intensity of bright colors. When enabled, this might make your screen appear dimmer than usual. If you want to keep it turned on, just drag the slider to the left side. Alternatively, you can toggle it off to turn it off.

  1. Go to SettingsAccessibility.
  2. Tap Display & Text Size → Toggle off Reduce White Point.

    Toggle off reduce white point

11. Let the iPhone cool down

If your iPhone’s interior temperature exceeds the normal operating range, it will try to regulate its temperature to protect its internal components. You’ll see a black screen and the warning message “iPhone needs to cool down before you can use it.”

Aside from this, iPhone screens dim when hot, so you’ll likely see a dimmed display and overall slower performance.

Just let your iPhone cool for a while and see if your iPhone’s screen returns to normal.

12. Update your iPhone to the latest iOS

Sometimes, outdated iOS versions can cause annoying glitches and problems. If your iPhone isn’t running the latest version of iOS, try updating it first and see if it stops your iPhone screen from dimming by itself.

  1. Go to SettingsGeneralSoftware Update.
  2. Select Download and Install if an update is available.

13. Reset your iPhone

It’s also possible that some bug is causing the issue. A simple restart can resolve the issue. If this doesn’t help, you might want to reset all your settings.

Note that this won’t affect all your personal data but will return all settings to default. Photos, videos, and saved files will NOT be deleted. However, just to be absolutely certain, it’d be wise to back up the files on your iPhone first.

  1. Open SettingsGeneral.
  2. Scroll down and tap Transfer or Reset iPhone.
  3. Tap ResetReset All Settings.

    Reset all settings on iphone

See if this resolves the iPhone screen dimming by itself.

Wrapping up…

As a professional Mac user, I’ve always searched for a reliable and feature-rich office suite that can be a free alternative to Microsoft Office 365. After extensively testing the OnlyOffice Desktop Editor, I can confirm that it’s the best open-source all-in-one document editor for Mac.

Want to know more? Read along as I share my experience of using OnlyOffice features and describe its strengths and weaknesses.

OnlyOffice Desktop Editor – User Interface

The first thing that struck me about the OnlyOffice Desktop Editor was its clean and intuitive user interface. If you have ever used Microsoft Office before, you can navigate through the app with no hassle.

The app offers in-app theme and language customizations. Once you launch OnlyOffice, click Settings and apply your preferred configuration.

From the home page, you can create a new Word document, Spreadsheet, PowerPoint presentation, and PDF form. Besides, the app lets you open local files from your Mac and edit them (more on this later). The best part is that you can connect OnlyOffice with your existing cloud storage to fetch files and documents.

Next, you will find a Templates tab on the home page with hundreds of document templates such as checklists, travel itineraries, resumes, etc.

Templates tab in onlyoffice desktop editor

After you create a new document, whether a Word doc, excel sheet, or slideshow, you can see a ribbon-style toolbar at the top. As I have always used Microsoft Office for work purposes, I found the tools and menus quite similar yet more accessible.

Overall, the design is minimal and doesn’t feel cluttered or overwhelming. Now, let’s explore the offerings of the OnlyOffice Desktop Editor for Mac.

Overview of products offered by OnlyOffice Desktop Editor

OnlyOffice offers a range of products to cater to different user needs.

  • OnlyOffice Docs: For personal use, the OnlyOffice Docs suite provides a comprehensive set of tools for creating and editing documents, spreadsheets, PDFs, presentations, etc.
  • OnlyOffice DocSpace: For team collaboration, the OnlyOffice DocSpace solution offers advanced features like shared workspaces, high-end security, and seamless integration with popular platforms.
  • OnlyOffice Workspace: This package combines document management, CRM, project management, and more into a single, powerful application for businesses.

Since we’re looking at Only Office as a potent Microsoft 365 alternative, I’ll stick to examining the features of Docs and DocSpace in this review. Let’s get started.

Features of OnlyOffice Docs for Mac

The OnlyOffice Desktop Editor is best known for its Docs suite. It’s a free app packed with features that make it a worthy alternative to Microsoft Office 365 and some native Mac apps like Pages, Numbers, and TextEdit.

Here’s a quick rundown of what it offers from its home page:

1. Document editor

Onlyoffice document editor

To create a new document, you can click the Document tab on the home page. You will be introduced to a feature-rich word processor with support for file formats such as DOC, DOCX, ODT, PDF, ePUB, FB2, RTF, HTML, etc.

The app lets you format text or swap over to the Insert tab to add images, videos, charts, tables, and more. Besides, you can find and replace words, add comments, or see the table of contents directly from the sidebar. Below are some other options you get:

  • From the Draw tab, you can doodle anything on your document.
Draw tab in onlyoffice document editor
  • Layout lets you set exactly how your document should look, from margins to page breaks. Also, you can add your watermark to the pages.
  • References tab offers citations, footnotes, table of contents and figures, cross reference, add captions to the images, etc. tools. These are essential if you’re writing an academic paper and need to hyperlink your sources!

  • Collaboration allows you to view, add, and edit comments on shared documents in real-time. You may track changes and accept or reject them.
Collaboration tab in onlyoffice document editor
  • From the Protection menu, you can encrypt your files with password protection or add your digital signature.
Protection menu in onlyoffice document editor
  • Plugins are where you can use extra tools and add-ons. I like its OCR function for converting images to text. Besides, you will get a photo editor, embed YouTube videos, code editor, and Translator tools by default.
Install plugins in onlyoffice document editor

You may click the Plugin Manager to install more useful extensions, like ChatGPT, Autocomplete, Telegram, etc., to boost your productivity and efficiency. Note that you must enter an API key to use ChatGPT and edit documents in OnlyOffice Docs.

You can also add the author’s name and tags to the doc from the Document Info section under the File menu. Once done, you can click the save icon at the top left.

The highlight for me was the ability to change File Format while savings the doc. For example, if you are creating an eBook, you can export the document as ePUB.

Next, I’ll take you through the spreadsheet editor offered by OnlyOffice Desktop Editor for Mac.

2. Spreadsheet editor

OnlyOffice’s powerful Spreadsheet editor has all the tools you need to create invoices, record data, perform operations, and just about anything else you’d need an Excel sheet for.

Onlyoffice powerful spreadsheet editor
  • The Home page lets you input and manipulate data. From the bottom toolbar, you can add a new sheet to the workbook.
  • Other tabs such as Insert, Layout, View, Collaboration, Protection, and Plugins consists of many of the same functionalities as included in the Document editor.
  • The Formula tab is unique to Spreadsheet; it’s capable of reading data and applying mathematical equations to extrapolate further information.
  • From the Data tab, you can import spreadsheets from local CSV or XML files. Besides, you can convert text to columns within the app, saving time and effort. I found its Remove Duplicates and Goal Seek features very useful.
  • If you want a more professional approach, worry not! OnlyOffice Spreadsheet Editor features Pivot Table tools.

Much the same as when working in the OnlyOffice Desktop Document editor, ensure to save your work so it can be shared or continued later. You may export it in XLSX, XLTX, ODS, XLTM, OTS, and CSV file formats.

3. Presentation editor

Presentation editor by onlyoffice

Presentation Editor by OnlyOffice is exactly what you want from slideshow software – create and edit slides with ease. You can even add notes and annotations for your audience.

Like the other two editors, you can format text, insert images, tables, charts, and text boxes, draw shapes, collaborate with others, protect your file, and use plugins. Here’s a bit more you can get:

  • Transitions tool provides several slide-changing animations for a smoother slideshow.
  • Not only slides, but you can also animate elements into your slides from the Animation tab.

Whenever I need to create a presentation at the last minute, I simply use OnlyOffice Editor’s ChatGPT and draw.io plugins to generate the content and diagrams.

Its diverse customization options help to make a professional-looking slideshow without much hassle.

4. PDF Form editor

Pdf form editor by onlyoffice

Want to create fillable forms or surveys for data collection or your business needs? OnlyOffice has got you covered.

Upon selecting PDF Form from the home page, you will notice its interface and menu tools are identical to the Document editor.

The Forms tab is the new addition. The tools here provide all necessary form sections such as Email Address, Phone Number, Credit Card, etc. Besides, you can add custom text fields, checkboxes, dropdowns, and radio buttons.

What’s more? When you select a text field or predefined section, a sidebar will open with more customization options. After you are done, you may view the form and save it as a PDF to share with others.

You can also open any PDF to annotate and add comments. It allows you to highlight or underline text or doddle on the PDF. Moreover, the editor can convert a PDF into a form and then complete it.

If you want your team to take the above benefits while working in collaboration or sync your OnlyOffice suite across devices, you may create a DocSpace cloud account and use their DocSpace module. Here’s all you need to know about it.

OnlyOffice DocSpace Features

From the OnlyOffice Docs’ home page, go to Connect to Cloud and sign into DocSpace. Once you create an account, it will give you a unique address. Now, using that link and your credentials, you can access your OnlyOffice suite from any device.

So, just create collaboration rooms, create or open your files, invite teammates to join your OnlyOffice rooms, and start working together. What I loved about this module were the advanced collaboration features, especially the co-editing mode and built-in chat support.

Onlyoffice docspace rooms

Besides, the industry-level security measure truly deserves applause. You may even import your Google Workspace, backup your data, and much more for free.

I hope you have a clear understanding of the OnlyOffice application and its features.

Now comes the main question: Is OnlyOffice as good as the Microsoft Office bundle, and should you download it on your Mac? Let’s face it!

Should you download OnlyOffice Desktop Editors for your Mac?

YES! I highly recommend giving OnlyOffice Desktop Editor a try.

OnlyOffice Desktop Editors is a solid suite of tools to accomplish nearly any file editing or presentation task you may need. It supports all standard file formats and protects your confidential files with strong encryption. I find its interface user-friendly which makes it easy to get started.

Its Document editor rivals other popular word processors. Besides, the Spreadsheet editor can handle large amounts of data and produce accurate results when you apply formulas. Overall, it consists of everything you need for work or school.

Pricing

The OnlyOffice Docs suite is available for free. However, a few premium features require a paid plan segmented into teams and businesses. The pricing is very competitive, especially when compared to the subscription-based model of Microsoft Office 365. Take a look.

    ModuleLicense durationNumber of usersPrice
    Docs Home ServerLifetime10$149

Sometimes, iOS just doesn’t want to cooperate. You try to send a photo to your friend, colleague, or family member, but you get a “Not Delivered” alert in return.

If your iPhone won’t send pictures, it’s likely due to one of a few main suspects. Here’s how to identify and solve the problem in a few quick steps.

Why can’t I send or receive pictures on my iPhone?

If you’ve come face to face with this error, you’re not alone; several users have reported the same problem on the Apple Forum.

There are a number of reasons why you may be unable to send or receive picture messages on your iPhone. So, before we move on to the potential fixes, here are some common reasons behind this issue:

    • Errors related to the Messages app or the network settings
    • Network-related issues on Apple’s or the carrier’s end
    • Insufficient storage capacity for storing new images
    • Software-related bugs in iOS or your Apple ID

Now that you have a general understanding of the likely causes, here are the solutions.

15 Ways to fix iPhone not sending pictures

Whether you’re unable to send a photo attachment in iMessage or receive images in MMS format, one of the following solutions will help your iPhone get back on track.

    1. Make sure iMessage is enabled
    2. Enable MMS for Messages
    3. Check network connection
    4. Check if the recipient has iMessage
    5. Try sending it to a different contact
    6. Check the file size
    7. Check iPhone storage
    8. Restart Messages app
    9. Clear your iMessage cache on iPhone
    10. Check iMessage’s System Status
    11. Disable Wi-Fi Assist
    12. Sign out of your Apple ID
    13. Install Carrier Updates
    14. Update iOS
    15. Reset Network Settings

    1. Make sure iMessage is enabled

The Messages app sends different types of messages: SMS/MMS and iMessage. iMessage lets you send text, photos, and videos to other Apple devices via cellular data or Wi-Fi.

That said, your iPhone can’t receive or send pictures if iMessage isn’t turned on to begin with. To turn iMessage on, go to Settings → Scroll down to Messages → Toggle on iMessage. Also, tap Send & Receive and select the number to use in Messages.

Go to Settings, Tap on Messages, and Turn on iMessages

    2. Enable MMS for Messages

You can still send images to non-Apple users through MMS messaging. MMS uses the same technology as SMS to send and receive multimedia content. But you must have an active cellular service plan.

    1. To enable MMS Messaging on your iPhone, go to SettingsMessages.
    2. Turn on MMS Messaging.

If you don’t see this option, your carrier might not support it. If you’ve seen the option before but it’s not there now, here’s what to do if the MMS Messaging option is missing on your iPhone:

    • Remove the SIM card and reinsert it.
    • Have someone send you an MMS message.
    • Ask your carrier to send you MMS message settings.

    3. Check network connection

iMessage requires a stable Wi-Fi or cellular connection to send media files like images and videos. The app might struggle to send any files if your network connection is poor or unstable.

So, try disabling your cellular data, restart your iPhone, and then enable cellular data again. You can also use Wi-Fi or toggle Airplane mode on/off to have a more stable network connection.

    4. Check if the recipient has iMessage

If you’re sure your iMessage is activated and working well, the next step is to check if the person you’re sending an image to has iMessage.

iMessage only works with Apple devices, so if your text messages go seamlessly as green message bubbles, the recipient may be a non-Apple user. In that case, try using iMessage alternatives to send your pictures instead.

    5. Try sending it to a different contact

To check if the issue is limited to a particular contact and is not an iMessage issue, try sending an iMessage to another Apple user. If it works, then the problem is with the contact.

Here are some potential reasons why you can’t send pictures from your iPhone to another user via iMessage:

    • iMessage is turned off on the recipient’s device.
    • iMessage is temporarily unavailable on their device.
    • You have the wrong contact number.
    • Your contact changed their number.
    • Your connection is using a different device.

    6. Check the file size

Check your file size by going to Photos, selecting the image, and swiping up to see the metadata. The maximum file size for iMessage attachments is 100MB.

If the file size is too large, reduce the image’s file size first. Also, you may send lower-quality images automatically,

    1. Go to SettingsMessages.
    2. Scroll down and toggle on Low Quality Image Mode.

Go to messages toggle on low quality image mode on iphone

    7. Check iPhone storage

A full iPhone storage will prevent you from receiving pictures on your iPhone.

To check your storage, go to SettingsGeneraliPhone Storage.

    Go-to-Settings-General-iPhone-Storage-and-check-your-available-space

Check out our guide on clearing up iPhone storage for tips on saving storage space.

    8. Restart Messages app

As simple as this sounds, force quit the app can help fix glitches and bugs that might be the reason why you can’t send or receive pictures on your iPhone.

Swipe up from your iPhone’s Home screen to open the App Switcher, find the Messages card, and swipe up on it to force quit Messages. Then, wait for a few seconds and relaunch the Messages app.

    Force quit the messages app

    9. Clear your iMessage cache on iPhone

Sometimes, clearing your iMessage cache can solve the problem. To do so:

    1. Go to SettingsGeneraliPhone StorageMessages.
    2. Here, you’ll see the items that take up space on your Messages app.
    3. You can see large attachments and delete them manually or enable Auto Delete Old Conversations to delete messages and attachments you sent or received over a year ago.

    10. Check iMessage’s System Status

There’s also a chance that it’s a server issue on Apple’s end. Visit Apple’s System Status page to see if iMessage’s server currently works well.

    11. Disable Wi-Fi Assist

Another feature that might cause problems, especially if you’re trying to send large files, is the Wi-Fi assist feature. This automatically switches to cellular data when it detects a poor Wi-Fi connection.

However, your cellular data might be insufficient to send the picture files over iMessage, leading to the “Not Delivered” error.

    1. Go to SettingsCellular.
    2. Scroll down and toggle off Wi-Fi Assist.

Mobile servce toggle off wi fi assist

    12. Sign out of your Apple ID

Signing out and signing back into your Apple ID may help reset any connection error that prevents your iPhone from sending and receiving pictures. To do so:

    1. Open Settings → Tap your name.
    2. Scroll down and tap Sign Out → Enter your password.

Sign out of apple id on iphone

After a few minutes, sign back in and check if your iPhone still isn’t sending any pictures. If it’s not, you may need to install a carrier update.

    13. Install Carrier Updates

Your carrier service releases occasional updates to improve cellular usage on your iPhone. You may face the problem of an iPhone not sending picture messages if you don’t update your iPhone to its latest carrier settings.

Go to SettingsGeneralAbout. If updates are available, you will see a popup asking you to update the settings. If not, they’re up to date.

    14. Update iOS

Apple consistently updates the iPhone’s software to ensure apps and features run smoothly. Using an outdated iOS might hinder app functionality, particularly when interfacing with other Apple devices running a more recent iOS version.

    1. To update iOS, SettingsGeneralSoftware Update.
    2. Tap Update Now if an update is available.

Go to General, select Software update, tap on Update Now

    15. Reset Network Settings

If this is a sudden issue, there may be an issue with some cellular settings on your iPhone. Resetting your Network Settings may help fix the problem.

Note: Write down or save your Wi-Fi passwords since resetting your network settings will reset all Wi-Fi networks and passwords, including VPN and APN settings and cellular settings.

    1. Go to SettingsGeneral.
    2. Tap Transfer or Reset iPhone → Select Reset.
    3. Tap Reset Network Settings.
    4. Enter your passcode to confirm → Tap Reset Network Settings.

      Reset-Network-Settings

    Wrapping up…

These were all the possible ways to fix an iPhone that won’t send picture messages. We hope one of them helped you resolve it.

If none of the above solutions worked, the underlying problem may be more complex and could be a hardware issue. In this case, it’s best to contact Apple Support for professional assistance.

Notifications play an essential role in our digital lives, keeping us informed about incoming messages, critical alerts, and updates from our favorite apps. However, for one reason or another, not every iPhone user is getting the full benefits of these useful communications.

If notifications are not working on your iPhone after updating to iOS 17.4.1, you’re not alone. This guide is here to help with some easy tweaks, useful hacks, and more.

12 Ways to fix iPhone notifications not working

Notifications not showing up on your iPhone? Unfortunately, it’s a fairly common issue. Thankfully, there are some simple solutions to fix the problem in no time.

    1. Restart your iPhone

If your iPhone notifications aren’t working after installing iOS 17.4.1, force restarting the device can often be the quickest and easiest solution.

This process will essentially turn your iPhone off and on again, clearing out any temporary glitches that could be causing problems with app notifications.

To restart your iPhone 8 or newer, press and hold the volume up or volume down button on the left side and the power button on the right side until the slider appears, and drag it from right to left.

Almost all apps on iPhones need a stable internet connection to fetch new data and deliver notifications without any interruptions.

So, if your iOS 17 notifications are not working, make sure you’ve turned on cellular data or Wi-Fi and check for potential network-related issues. Open Safari or a browser of your choice and head to a website like apple.com. If you don’t see any issues, move onto the next solution.

If you’re unsure, you can always turn on Airplane mode, then turn it off after 30 seconds or restart your wireless router if you’re connected over Wi-Fi.

    3. Ensure Focus Mode is turned off

Focus Mode can silence notifications, even when you’re not actively using it.

If you’re not receiving notifications after updating to iOS 17.4.1, check if Focus Mode is enabled. Turn it off to ensure all notifications are delivered without fail.

    1. Open the Control Center → Tap and hold Focus.
Focus is replaced by the name of the Focus Mode that’s active.
    2. Select a Focus Mode you want to turn off. Once you turn off a Focus, all banners will go from white to grey.

      enabling Focus Mode on iPhone

Once you deactivate Focus Mode on your iPhone, you should deactivate automatic activation to ensure Focus Mode isn’t enabled automatically.

    1. Open the Control Centre → Tap and hold Focus.
Focus is replaced by the name of the Focus Mode that’s active.
    2. Tap the three-dot menu next to the Focus Mode → Select Settings.

      go-to-focus-mode-settings
    3. Select Smart Activation or Custom Schedule → Tap Delete Schedule.

      delete-focus-mode-schedule

Once the Focus is turned off, ask your friends or family to send you a text to check whether you received the notification or not.

    4. Turn off Share Across Devices

One of the many great features of Focus is that you can enable it across all Apple ecosystems. But what if you want the Focus on your Mac/iPad but not on your iPhone?

    1. Go to SettingsFocus.
    2. Toggle off the switch next to Share Across Devices.

      tap-focus-toggle-off-share-across-device-in-settings

And just like that, all our Focus-related escapades are done. Now, it is time to hop on to the Notifications section.

    5. Ensure app notifications are enabled on iPhone

If you’re not getting notifications for specific apps on your iPhone, it’s probably because you haven’t allowed the app to send you notifications. To check:

    1. Go to Settings → Notifications → Select an app that’s facing issues.
    2. Toggle on Allow Notifications and Time Sensitive Notifications.
    3. Choose any alerts and banner style → Toggle on Sound.

Check if Instagram notifications are enabled

    6. Check in-app notification settings on iPhone

Even if you’ve enabled notifications for an app in your iPhone settings, there might be another layer of control within the app.

Many apps offer their own notification settings, so you can fine-tune how and when you receive alerts. Tweaking these in-app settings can often help you fix iPhone notifications.

For example, you can go to WhatsAppSettingsNotifications and adjust settings as per your preference. Likewise, you can make changes to other apps you use regularly.

If you’re still not getting notifications on your iPhone, it may be because of the Scheduled Summary setting.

    7. Turn off Notification summary

Although the Scheduled Summary feature on iPhone can help you manage notifications easily without getting overloaded, it can inadvertently silence alerts you need to see immediately.

Therefore, you should check if turning off Scheduled Summary fixes your iOS 17 notifications.

    1. Go to Settings → Notifications.
    2. Tap Scheduled Summary.
    3. Toggle off Schedule Summary

      turn-off-scheduled-summary

    8. Turn off Low Power and Low Data Mode on iPhone

While these modes are useful, they are known to restrict background app refresh on your iPhone. This can cause notifications to be delayed or not delivered.

    • To toggle off Low Power Mode:
      • Go to Settings → Battery → Toggle off Low Power Mode.

To toggle off Low Power Mode
        ‍
    • To toggle off Low Data Mode for Cellular:
      • Go to Settings → Cellular → Cellular Data Options.
If you use dual SIMs, select a SIM to locate Cellular Data Options.

Go to Cellular Data Options from Cellular in Settings
      • Tap Data Mode → Deselect Low Data Mode.

Tap Data Mode and Deselect Low Data Mode.
    • To disable Low Data Mode for Wi-Fi:
      • Navigate to Settings → Wi-Fi.
      • Tap the blue ‘i’ icon next to a network → Turn off Low Data Mode.

        Toggle off Low Data Mode

    9. Enable Background App refresh

If background app refresh is disabled for an app, it might be unable to deliver notifications.

Many iPhone apps rely on background app refresh to stay up-to-date and deliver timely notifications. So, do the following to check if this setting is enabled:

    1. Locate and open the Settings app on your iPhone or iPad.
    2. Navigate to General → Background App Refresh.

      go-to-general-background-app-refresh
    3. Tap Background App Refresh → Select Wi-Fi & Cellular Data.
    4. Go Back and enable the toggle next to the apps you use.

      toggle-on-background-app-refresh

    10. Install latest iOS update

Many iPhone users have reported bugs with iOS 17.4.1 notifications.

If it is indeed a software glitch, Apple will soon fix it with a software update. So, install the latest iOS version as soon as Apple releases it. This will ensure you have the latest bug fixes and other refinements.

    1. Navigate to Settings → General → Software Update.
    2. Tap Update Now if a software update is available.

Click on Update now for Software Update

    11. Reset all settings on your iPhone

If you’ve tried all the above troubleshooting tips and the iPhone notifications are still acting up, you may have to Reset All Settings.

This will revert your iPhone’s settings to the factory defaults, potentially eliminating any underlying issues to fix notifications not working after updating to iOS 17.4.1.

Note This will NOT delete any photos, videos, or files saved to your iPhone. It will, however, reset your wallpaper to the default background and erase your PIN password to access the phone.
    1. Go to Settings → General → Transfer or Reset iPhone.

Go to Settings then General Transfer or Reset iPhone
    2. Tap Reset → Reset All Settings.
    3. Enter your iPhone or iPad’s Passcode.

Tap Reset then Transfer or Reset iPhone
    4. Tap Reset All Settings again to complete the process.

    12. Contact Apple for technical support

If you’ve tried all the solutions to this point and your iPhone notifications still aren’t working in iOS 17.4.1, the next best step is to contact Apple Support directly. They have a team of trained technicians who can help you diagnose and fix the issue.

Why are my notifications not showing up on iPhone?

You may not be getting notifications on your iPhone for a number of reasons. Typically, the fixes are easy settings tweaks like disabling Focus Mode, enabling background app refresh, or updating to the latest iOS version.

Did notifications change after iOS 17 update?

While notifications didn’t change fundamentally in iOS 17, Apple did change the default text tone. If your iPhone notifications aren’t showing up, it’s likely because of a settings issue or an outdated iOS version.

Whether you’re moving to another country or want to try out apps and services of a different nation, you need to update the country or region that’s associated with your Apple ID. Many Apple forum users have reported that their iPhone touch screen stopped working after updating to iOS 17.

Usually, this problem occurs after you drop your iPhone, notice other software bugs, or install faulty apps. Additionally, certain screen protectors may hinder your display. Worry not; we’ve found several solutions to fix the problem and get your iPhone screen to respond to your touch once again!

8 Ways to fix iPhone screen not responding to touch

There are a few usual suspects when it comes to an iPhone screen that just doesn’t seem to work correctly. Here’s what they are and how to get your screen back in working order.

    1. Force restart your iPhone

Normally, you’d have to use your iPhone’s touch screen to restart the device. After holding the power and volume buttons, you’d “slide to power off.” But what should you do when your iPhone touch screen isn’t working?

    Here’s the fix:

    1. Quickly press and release the Volume Up button.
    2. Then, quickly press and release the Volume Down button.
    3. Finally, press and hold the Side button until the Apple logo pops up.

Hard Reboot iPhone X, 8 Plus, and 8

This method force restarts your iPhone and (hopefully) fixes the unresponsive touchscreen issue. This quick fix can also remedy other issues like blurred iPhone corners.

No dice? In that case, it may be time to clean some schmutz off your screen.

    2. Clean your iPhone

Even though the iPhone is water-resistant, it has some limitations. Any liquid on the iPhone’s display or your finger can hinder your touch inputs with the screen, making it unresponsive. Clean off any liquid or debris on your iPhone display with a dry microfiber cloth. As per Apple Support’s Cleaning your iPhone post, you can also use 70% isopropyl alcohol or Clorox wipes for a sparkling screen.

If your iPhone was submerged in a pool or similar body of liquid, turn off your iPhone first. Let it dry completely (typically for several hours), and then turn it on. If your iPhone’s sound is distorted, some water may still reside in the speakers. Try ejecting liquid from your iPhone.

Also, remove any screen protectors or cases attached to your iPhone screen.

If your screen is clean, you don’t have a bulky screen protector or case getting in the way, and your iPhone is as dry as it’s supposed to be, a recently-installed app could be at fault.

    3. Uninstall problematic apps

If you’ve noticed that your iPhone’s screen becomes unresponsive while using a particular app, that app might be the cause of the issue. Buggy apps can also be the reason for your iPhone screen not responding to touch.

Try uninstalling the app, then restarting your iPhone. If your touch screen responds well without the app, you can be fairly certain it was the cause of the issue. If you need the app, try reinstalling the latest version from the App Store once more.

    1. Press and hold the app icon on the home screen.
    2. Tap Remove App → Next, tap Delete App.
    3. Tap Delete.

      Uninstall the app from iPhone
    4. Now, open the App Store.
    5. Search for the app’s name. Download the app back onto your iPhone and see if it causes any further problems.

If the problem persists, try updating your iPhone to the latest version of iOS.

If the problem persists, move on to the next solution.

    4. Update your iPhone using a computer

Sometimes, software updates can help fix the bugs or glitches of the existing software version. Try updating your iPhone by connecting it to a Mac or PC that you normally use.

Moreover, if that doesn’t work, you can try making a backup and restoring your iPhone through your Mac or PC. In some cases, this helps unresponsive iPhone touch screens.

    5. Reset your iPhone

If your iPhone’s screen is completely unusable, head on to the next solution. However, if it’s a little responsive, try to reset your iPhone.

Note Resetting your iPhone to factory settings is a surefire way to fix any software-related issues. However, this WILL delete any photos, videos, or saved files you have on your device. It’s important to back up your iPhone before performing a factory reset.
    1. Make sure your iPhone data is backed up to your computer or the cloud.
    2. Go to Settings → General → Reset.
    3. Select Erase All Content & Settings.

Erase All Content and Settings on iPhone

If your iPhone’s screen is still not responding to touch, it’s very unlikely that it’s a software issue. Try updating its firmware next to be certain.

    6. Perform DFU

DFU stands for “Device Firmware Upgrade.” It removes everything from your device and reinstalls all software again. All of your data will be lost if not backed up to iCloud, pCloud, any other cloud service of your choosing, or an external hard drive.

Again, make sure you do this only if you have a recent backup or have no essential data on the iPhone that you cannot download from the cloud.

Check out the following guide to know how to put your iPhone in DFU mode.

    7. Hardware defect

If none of the above solutions work, it’s almost certainly a hardware-related issue. Remove any attached screen protectors and phone case, and try using your iPhone.

Consider contacting Apple Support to get the screen replaced. However, the replacement can be a bit costly.

    8. Fix it yourself with Self Service Repair

If you’ve narrowed it down to a hardware issue, it may be time to visit Apple Support, as we mentioned.

One of the selling points of the iPhone is its water resistance. While it can certainly handle splashes, getting it too wet can lead to hardware damage. To prevent hardware damage, your iPhone will alert you whenever it detects liquid in its port by displaying a “Liquid Detected in Lightning Connector” error message.

Below, I’ll explain what the error means and various ways to get water out of the charging port and fix the “Liquid Detected in Lightning Connector” error on iPhone.

What does the “Liquid Detected in Lightning connector” error mean?

There are many ways you can get liquid in your charging port. Spilling a drink on your device, forgetting your iPhone in a humid bathroom, or getting caught outside during a thunderstorm can all leave moisture stuck inside your iPhone’s Lightning port.

The good thing is that if you own an iPhone XR, iPhone XS, iPhone XS Max, or a newer model, your device has the capability to detect liquid or moisture in the Lightning Port and alert you whenever you connect a Lightning cable or other Lightning accessories to your iPhone’s port.

When you see one of these alerts on your iPhone, it means that your iPhone detected liquid either in the cable, accessory, or in the Lightning port itself.

    • Charging Not Available: This error appears when you connect your iPhone to a charger, and your device detects liquid.
    • Liquid detected in Lightning Connector: This error shows up when you connect a Lightning accessory that doesn’t charge your iPhone, and it detects liquid on the port.

This also means that you won’t be able to charge or connect your accessories until the port or the accessory is dry.

8 Ways to fix ‘Liquid detected in Lightning connector’ alert on iPhone

It’s important to note that while most newer iPhone models are water-resistant, they’re definitely not waterproof.

Trapped moisture or liquid can cause the metal pins inside your device to corrode and prevent your iPhone from connecting to lightning connectors or accessories. Here are some different ways to fix this issue.

    1. Check if your iPhone or Lightning port is wet

The first thing you need to do is unplug any accessories or cables from your iPhone until you’re sure they’re completely dry. Since using your device while it’s wet can damage your device, turn it off. Then do the following:

    • Dry your iPhone: If your device has a case, remove it. You can use a towel or tissue paper to remove the excess water. Do not insert any foreign object, like a cotton swab or tissue, into the charging port. This may push the water further inside.
    • Remove excess water: Tap the iPhone gently against your hand with the port facing downward to help get water droplets off the Lightning connector.
    • Keep it in a well-ventilated area: Leave your device in a dry area with enough ventilation. Apple doesn’t recommend putting your device in a bag of rice since small grains might get into the port and cause more damage. You may surround your iPhone with desiccants. You can find these in shoeboxes and some food packaging.

Don’t use compressed air or external heat sources like blowers. This may heat your device, cause it to slow down, or damage its components.

After at least 30 minutes, try charging your device again. If the error still shows up, there may still be liquid in the port or under the pins of your Lightning cable. When this occurs, keep your iPhone turned off, place it in a dry place, and wait for several hours.

You can try charging or connecting your iPhone to the cable or accessory every now and then to check if the liquid is gone, but it might take up to 24 hours for it to dry fully.

    2. Dry your Lightning cable

It’s also possible that your Lightning cable is the culprit behind the “Liquid Detected in Lightning Connector” error. If you suspect this, use an absorbent towel to dry it. It’s possible for water to be trapped between the metal pins and plastic shroud.

Leave it in a dry place with adequate airflow and wait for several hours before trying again.

    Dry your Lightning cable

    3. Try another Lightning cable

In some instances, the “Liquid Detected in Lightning Connector” only appears when you’re using a certain cable or accessory. If so, the connector you’re using may be damaged. Try using a different Lightning cable and see if this resolves the issue.

    4. Restart your iPhone

If you’ve given your device and accessories ample time to try but still get the error, doing a quick reboot may help. This is especially true if your device has not had any contact with water; the issue may just be a one-off software glitch.

Drag the slider to Turn Off iPhone 11

Use an Apple-certified charger and Lightning cable

Using third-party accessories can also cause this issue. Apple recommends using only their accessories or third-party products that come with an MFi certification on the box. This way, you can guarantee it is both safe and compatible with your iPhone.

Use an Apple-certified charger and Lightning cable

    6. Charge your device with a wireless charger

If you have a wireless charger, you can use it to charge your iPhone. Be sure to dry the back of your device before charging.

However, if your iPhone has been submerged in water, it’s possible for liquid to enter other parts of your device. If this is the case, wireless charging your iPhone isn’t a good idea.

    7. Use Emergency Override

While it’s not advisable to charge your iPhone when it’s wet, you might need to do so during an emergency. Initially, the error will only give you a Dismiss option, but reconnecting the cord or accessory to your phone will give you the option to Emergency Override the liquid detection and charge your device.

    8. Contact Apple Support

If you’ve done all the tips above and still see the same error, or if you see the alert every time you connect your iPhone to a Lightning cable or accessory, it’s best to contact Apple Support.

    Q. What should you avoid doing if your iPhone or Lightning cable is wet?

Don’t use an external heat source, compressed air, or insert any foreign object inside the Lightning port in an attempt to remove moisture. While many people do this, you shouldn’t put your iPhone in a bag of rice. Small grains might get stuck inside the port and damage your iPhone.

    Q. What happens if you charge your iPhone while the Lightning port is wet?

Charging your iPhone while the port is wet can corrode the cable or the pins on the connector. This can permanently damage your accessory or your iPhone.

    Wrapping up…

Getting the “Liquid Detected in Lightning Connector” error can be annoying, and it’s important to act fast. While liquid or moisture is often the cause, it’s also possible that the issue is due to a glitch or a faulty accessory.

You’re browsing the App Store when you see something that piques your interest. You hit “Get,” only to be stopped dead in your tracks by an annoying message.

If you want to know how to get rid of the “Verification Required” prompt when installing free apps, follow this guide.

Why does it say “Verification Required” on the App Store?

The “Verification Required” prompt on the App Store asks you to verify your payment info, preventing you from downloading apps on your iPhone.

Here are some of the potential reasons why you see a “Verification Required” popup whenever you launch the App Store:

    • You’ve never used your Apple ID to download an app on your iPhone (whether paid or free)
    • There is an error with the current payment method associated with your Apple ID, preventing Apple from charging you
    • You have an unpaid balance or insufficient funds on the payment method associated with your Apple ID
    • The saved payment method is not supported
    • Your payment method has not been updated
    • You’re under a Family Sharing account, and your Apple account is restricted

How to fix “Verification Required” on App Store

Now that you have an idea of what’s causing this message, let’s get into the solutions. Luckily, most of these fixes are quick and easy to follow.

    1. Enter a payment method for your Apple ID

If you’re using a new Apple ID or have never downloaded an app under your existing ID, Apple requires you to fill in your payment details before you can download any apps on your iPhone—regardless of whether the app is free or paid.

    1. In this case, enter your Apple ID password in the text field → Tap Continue.

Enter a payment method for your Apple ID
    2. Your device will redirect you to your billing information → Enter your payment details.
    3. Once done, you should be able to begin downloading apps.

    2. Change or update Apple ID payment method

If you were able to download an app on your iPhone previously but are now getting a “Verification Required” error on the App Store, there’s a good chance it’s because of an issue with your payment method.

If your credit or debit card has expired or there have been changes to your name or address, your financial institution may automatically update your card information.

This can lead to discrepancies between the newly updated card details and the payment information associated with your Apple ID, causing a mismatch that triggers the “Verification Required” error.

In this case, add a new card before removing the old one. To do this:

    1. Go to Settings → Apple ID [your name] → Payment & Shipping.

Go to Apple ID and Select Payment and Shipping
    2. Enter your passcode, Touch ID, or Face ID.
    3. Your current payment information might open → Tap Back to go to Payment and Shipping.
    4. Select Add Payment Method.
    5. Fill in with the details and tap Done.

Select payment method and add details and tap done

Once you have your new payment method, you can delete the old one with outdated information.

What to do with declined/failed payments?

The Verification Required error can also occur when a payment fails or gets declined if your digital wallet or mobile phone billing doesn’t have enough balance.

    • To check, go to Settings → Apple ID [your name] → Payment & Shipping and see the payment methods linked to your Apple ID.
    • If you see the payment method in red along with a (Failed), you need to use a different payment method.

      When your payment decline
    • If the old payment method doesn’t work, you can change the payment method by selecting from the available Payment Method options and entering all the required details.

Remember that the availability of payment methods depends on your country and region.

    3. Pay any unpaid subscription dues

Your purchase may fail if you don’t have sufficient funds on your preferred payment method. In this case, a declined or payment failure will prompt your iPhone to show a “Verification Required” popup. So you can quickly update your payment method.

    • To check if you have any unpaid subscriptions, head to Settings → [your name] → Subscriptions. Check if you have any subscriptions that require payment.

      Tap Name and Select Subscriptions
    • Then go back to your Apple ID page, tap Media & Purchases → View Account → Purchase History.

Tap Media and Purchases, View Account, Purchase History
    • If you’ve hidden them, be sure to unhide your App Store purchases first. If you’ve made purchases you haven’t paid for yet, you’ll see an Amount You Owe in red under the app download or in-app purchase you made.

    4. Disable App Store Restrictions

If you’re using Screen Time, it will restrict you from making purchases and downloading apps. Thus, you can fix the Verification Required error on the App Store. Here’s how you can turn it off:

    1. Go to Settings
    2. Select Screen Time → Content & Privacy Restrictions.
If you don’t have this turned on, you can skip this solution.
    3. Tap iTunes & App Store Purchases.

Go to iTunes and App Store Purchases from Content and Privacy Restrictions on iPhone
    4. Ensure that Installing Apps and In-app Purchases are allowed.
      • Further, select Don’t Require under the Require Password section.

        Allow Installing and Deleting Apps

    5. Agree to Terms and Conditions for Media & Purchases

It’s also possible that you skipped agreeing to the terms and conditions for purchases on the App Store. This may stop you from installing free apps or making purchases and cause the Verification Required popup to appear on the App Store.

    1. Go to Settings → [your name] → Media & Purchases.
    2. Tap View Account.

Agree to Terms and Conditions for Media and Purchases
    3. If you haven’t agreed to the Terms and Conditions, you’ll see a popup asking you to review and approve them.

    6. Sign out and sign in back to Apple ID

If none of the above methods worked and your payment information has no issues, the Verification Required error up may just be a glitch. Signing out of your Apple ID and signing back in can refresh it and flush out any bugs causing the glitch.

    1. To sign out of your Apple ID, go to Settings → [your name].
    2. Scroll down and tap Sign Out.

Sign out and sign back in on the App Store
    3. Restart your iPhone and sign back in.

Video: How to stop “Verification Required” when installing free apps

Why can’t I download a free app without a payment method?

Apple requires a valid payment method on file for your Apple ID, even if you’re trying to download a free app. This provides another layer of authentication for your account and ensures you can pay for any in-app purchases should you want to. If the app itself is free, you will not be charged any money even if the popup appears.

Can I avoid verification when downloading free apps from the App Store?

If you don’t want to enter your password or use Face ID when installing new apps, head to SettingsScreen TimeContent & Privacy RestrictionsiTunes Store & App Store. Then, toggle Content & Privacy Restrictions on if it’s off and head into iTunes & App Store Purchases. Under Require Password, select Don’t Require.

    Download apps without verification!

There you have it. Since the Verification Required on the App Store is commonly a payment method issue, using one of the fixes listed above should stop the annoying popup when installing free apps.
