If you are seeking a sleek and protective iPad Pro case, get Apple’s Smart Folio case. It offers premium protection for the front and back with a durable PU covering. I highly recommend this folio case because it automatically wakes your iPad when opened and puts it to sleep when closed.

Besides, as it supports a wider range of viewing angles, it’s ideal for everyday tasks, such as reading, taking notes, viewing, etc. The best part is the case is so thin and light that you will have no problem carrying your iPad around.

If you are a minimalist like me, you must get the PITAKA MagEZ Folio 2 case for your iPad Pro M4. It is only 2-3mm thick and weighs 240g. This is especially impressive since PITAKA used composite fiberglass board on the exterior and microfiber fabric for the interior.

So, the dual-sided cover guards your iPad’s front and rear surfaces against scratches and knocks. Additionally, the built-in magnetic strap holds the Apple Pencil firmly. If you are not using the Apple Pencil, fold and conceal it.

Although it appears at the bottom of this list, I can vouch for its quality and practicality. We had tested this product previously at iGeeksBlog, and we absolutely loved it. To learn more, you can check out our detailed review of PITAKA MagEZ Folio 2 case.

iPhones have become one of the most popular and sought-after smartphones globally, thanks to their advanced features and sleek design. Many offline and online retailers offer heavy discounts occasionally, especially during the festive seasons. However, with the rise of counterfeit products in the market, it has become increasingly difficult to distinguish between original, refurbished, or fake iPhones, especially when buying online.

10 ways to check if your iPhone is original or fake

Whether you are planning to buy an iPhone from an offline store or online, this article will discuss several ways to determine whether your iPhone is real or not. I always recommend the checklist mentioned below to my friends and family, and they thank me later for making an informed purchase decision. I’m pretty sure it will help you, too.

1. Cross-check the IMEI number on the box and Settings app

The IMEI number is the easiest step to check if the iPhone is original. IMEI stands for International Mobile Equipment Identity. It serves as a unique ID for your iPhone’s hardware.

Also, the IMEI number may be of any old iPhone, so cross-check it with the IMEI number provided in the device.

  1. Go to Settings → General → About.
  2. Scroll down to get the IMEI number.

Go to general, about, IMEI in Settings
  3. If the IMEI numbers on the box and in the Settings app don’t match, there’s a high chance your iPhone is fake (unless the device was sold with the wrong box).

Also, the IMEI number is available on the SIM tray of the iPhone except iPhone 14 series. Besides, you may dial the code *#06# to see your IMEI.

2. Check the Model number and Serial number

After IMEI, next, validate your iPhone’s serial and model number. You may find the serial number of your iPhone in several ways. First, copy it and check it on the above-mentioned Apple’s official website. If you see the green tick beside Valid Purchase, it means the phone is genuine.

Additionally, you can tell if the iPhone is brand new or refurbished. To do so, check the first letter of the Model number of your iPhone from Settings → General → About.

  • M: The iPhone is new and original.
  • F: The device has been refurbished and used before.
  • N: The current iPhone has been replaced with a broken iPhone because of a service request.
  • P: Apple has made a personalized iPhone with engraving.

So, now you may find out if someone is trying to sell you a refurbished phone in the name of a new one.

Note

3. Go through the physical appearance of the iPhone

Some unique physical elements make the iPhone distinctive.

Physical appearance of iPhone
  • You should see a sleep/wake button, a mute switch, an Action Button, and volume controls on the sides of the device.
  • Also, the rear of your iPhone should have the Apple logo.
  • As iPhones do not have USB Type-C ports like Android phones, check for the lightning connector at the bottom.
  • Also, look for the Pentalobe screws next to the port to check if the iPhone is real or fake.
  • Finally, pay close attention to the camera module, the frames, and the notch. The look should match the images on the official Apple website.
  • Besides, most iPhone models are made of metal and glass to provide a premium hand feel.

Fake iPhones often have weaker construction and a somewhat different design from genuine versions. As a result, you must thoroughly examine the iPhone’s outside. Your iPhone is probably a fake if any of these parts are missing or present in an unexpected place.

4. Ensure the iPhone’s internal parts are not changed

Some reports show that customers have been scammed with serviced iPhones. The device is original, but due to some malfunctions, it may be repaired with non-Apple parts. So, the iPhone can not provide the same user experience with those parts installed.

To find if the screen is original or not:

Also, if you have an iPhone 11 or later (running on iOS 15.2 or later) and if it has gone through any service replacements, you should be able to see the details here:

  1. Go to Settings General About.
  2. Under Parts and Service History, you will see the part’s name. If it shows Unknown, the installed part is non-Apple or used in another iPhone.

5. Network connectivity

All iPhone models can connect to Wi-Fi, EDGE, and Bluetooth. Apple Pay is supported through NFC, and files can be shared on AirDrop. So, if you buy an iPhone that can’t connect to one of these networks, it’s probably a fake.

6. Sync the new iPhone using Quick Start

To check whether the iPhone is original or fake, you may try to connect to iTunes and see if iTunes recognizes your iPhone. If the phone can’t install iOS backup from iCloud or sync data with your Mac, it’s not original.

Also, bring your old iPhone next to your new iPhone for setup. If you can’t use Quick Start to set up, the latter is fake.

Quick Start on new iPhone

7. Verify iOS

iOS in iPhones is visibly distinct from Android in terms of look, feel, and performance. So, fake iPhones try to copy the interface.

To discover your iPhone’s OS, go to Settings → GeneralSoftware update.

General about software update in settings

Also, when you set up your new iPhone, it asks you to create an Apple ID. If it prompts you to enter your Google account or anything else, the iPhone is not real.

8. Look for system apps

iOS system apps

iPhone comes with a different App Store only for iOS apps. So, you may try to open it. If you see the Google Play store, the iPhone is not original. Also, Apple includes specific system apps like Safari, Health, Music, Compass, Calculator, etc., which can’t be deleted. Therefore, if any of them are absent, the phone is either jailbroken or fake.

You can recover the original firmware by switching to DFU mode and installing the operating system again. Your iPhone is probably a fake if native apps are still missing.

9. Activate Siri on iPhone

Activate Siri on iPhone

Siri is solely Apple’s in-house technology. So, fake iPhone manufacturers can’t include Siri in their phones and instead use Google Assistant, Amazon Alexa, or other voice assistants. Instead, try to activate Siri by long pressing the power button. If it doesn’t pop up, the iPhone is not original.

10. Get checked from the Apple Store or Service Provider

If you still believe it to be a fake, you may take your iPhone to the nearest Apple Store or Apple Authorized Service Provider. Your iPhone can undergo diagnostic tests performed by a retail specialist to verify your Apple iPhone.

Be aware of iPhone scams!

Purchasing a fake iPhone can result in a loss of money and a frustrating experience. So, you must verify your Apple iPhone before buying to make an informed purchase and avoid being scammed. Whether you have just purchased an iPhone or are planning to buy one, I hope this guide will provide the necessary information to check if the iPhone is original or fake.

With a new iPhone series launching every year, you’re probably tempted to upgrade to the latest model. However, the cost of a brand new smartphone may not fit in your budget.

This is where refurbished iPhones come into play; they’re functional and affordable. Not sure where to start looking for trustworthy sources? We’ve researched the best places to buy a refurbished iPhone and put them together in this list.

Things to consider when buying a refurbished iPhone

Refurbished iPhones are not faulty devices. They have been checked and certified by technicians to ensure they’re working properly. The previous owner might have returned the iPhone due to minor defects, cosmetic issues like dents and scratches, or simply because they wanted an upgrade.

However, consider the following to ensure a safe purchase.

  • Source: Purchase from reputable sellers such as Apple’s official refurbished store or well-known retailers. Read reviews from other buyers who have purchased refurbished devices from the same source.
  • Warranty: Ensure the device comes with a warranty. This way you can get proper assistance in case any issues arise.
  • Certification: Look for a certification of quality to ensure proper working conditions.
  • Return policy: Check the seller’s return policy if the device doesn’t meet your expectations.
  • Authenticity: Verify it’s not a stolen or counterfeit product.
  • Cosmetic condition: Check the cosmetic imperfections and ensure they don’t affect the performance.
  • Battery life: It’s wise to get a refurbished iPhone that can recharge at least 80% to 90% of its maximum battery life.
  • Compatibility: Check the device’s compatibility with your carrier.
  • Future considerations: Consider the long-term needs like future software support and compatibility with upcoming technologies.

While refurbished iPhones can be a great value, there’s always some inherent risk. Conduct thorough research and purchase from reliable sources to minimize that risk. Read our detailed guide to know the prerequisites to buying a second-hand iPhone.

Best places to buy a refurbished or second-hand iPhone

Instead of buying a new iPhone, consider purchasing a refurbished one. The following are some of the best places to do so!

1. Apple Refurbished Store

apple refurbished store

It’s tough to think of a better place to buy a used iPhone than Apple’s official Refurbished Store. Apple experts thoroughly inspect and repair second-hand iPhones to meet quality standards. The best part is you will receive your refurbished iPhone in new Apple-branded packaging, with a new battery, and a clean exterior shell.

Apple also offers a one-year limited warranty and the option to add another year of AppleCare coverage. Additionally, you will get free next-day shipping and a 14-day return period.

However, premium quality comes with a hefty price tag. This store’s pricing is more significant than all other refurbished iPhone sites. You’re still getting an iPhone at a sizable price cut, but you do have more affordable options elsewhere.

2. Gazelle

Gazelle

Gazelle is the most reputable third-party platform for buying refurbished iPhones at a meager price. They buy smartphones from individuals, repair them through a 30-point inspection program, and sell them after quality assurance.

Many refurbished iPhones are available in various colors, carriers, and sizes. You will also get free shipping and monthly payment modes. But remember, it only offers a return policy of 30 days. You can also sell your used iPhones and other Apple devices at a reasonable price.

3. Amazon Renewed

amazon renewed

Amazon Renewed is a flourishing site for buying refurbished phones at exclusive prices. They also include accessories with every refurbished iPhone box. You’ll bag a 90-day Amazon Renewed Guarantee and return policy with your purchase as well.

Moreover, most iPhones qualify for Prime delivery. Fast, affordable, high-quality refurbished iPhones—what’s not to love?

4. Back Market

back market refurbished iphone

Back Market lets you buy refurbished iPhones at various conditions (Excellent, Good, and Fair) to fit your budget. It also provides an expert checking certification, a 1-year warranty, a free 30-day return policy, and monthly installment plans.

Refurbished iPhone sellers on the Back Market must pass a stringent screening procedure and satisfy its quality standards. If the iPhone battery has under 500 cycles and less than 80% of its original capacity, it must be replaced.

Check out on: Back Market

5. Best Buy

best buy

Best Buy is a renowned and trusted seller of open-box, unlocked, and pre-owned iPhones. It offers used iPhones in solid conditions with freebies and a whopping discount. You will get 3 months of Apple TV+, 4 months of Apple Music, and 4 months of Apple News+ subscriptions for free with your purchase.

You can also choose between free shipping or quick pickup for added convenience. It provides a warranty (limited 90 days) on recently-purchased products as well, which makes Best Buy one of the best places to buy a refurbished iPhone.

6. OzMobiles

OzMobiles

OzMobiles store has a wide range of inexpensive refurbished iPhones and other gadgets. They buy used iPhones locally and restore them to their full working potential through a Blancco-certified 72-point quality testing process.

OzMobiles offers a Battery Life Guarantee and ensures every refurbished iPhone has at least 80% battery capacity, too. So, you don’t have to be concerned about the battery condition of your refurbished iPhones.

Additionally, you will get a free 12-month warranty and a 30-day risk-free return policy.

Check out on: OzMobiles

7. decluttr

decluttr

Decluttr sells refurbished iPhones with the same performance and functionality as a brand new one. It follows a thorough internal refurbishing process, including 70 quality inspections.

You will get up to a $100 discount on all items. Again, Decluttr offers free shipping with a live tracking facility and a 12-month limited warranty.

Check out on: decluttr

8. eBay

ebay refurbished iphone

eBay offers a massive catalog of refurbished iPhones to buy at impressive discounts. It basically acts as a marketplace for second-hand iPhone dealers.

However, eBay doesn’t provide any product quality assurance or warranty. It’s important to check product ratings and seller reviews before finalizing a purchase. In short: make sure you know what you’re buying.

You can always message the seller directly with any questions or concerns you may have. Take note of whether the listing offers a refund policy, as this is determined by the seller.

Check out on: eBay

9. Swappa

swappa

Swappa offers an extensive collection of used and refurbished iPhones with various discounts. But you must shop carefully to grab the best deal.

It also provides PayPal purchase protection for buyers to avoid fraud. The best part: you’ll get detailed product guides and built-in comparisons to help you choose the right one.

Check out on: Swappa

10. RefurbMe

refurbme

RefurbMe is a marketplace where you can see all the trusted and certified refurbished iPhone sellers in one place. So, you can compare prices and get up to 75% savings.

RefurbMe ensures all the vendors offer a warranty and hassle-free return policy. Therefore, you don’t need to do extensive research. RefurbMe’s ease of use and helpful price compiling lands it a spot in the best places to buy a refurbished iPhone.

Check out on: RefurbMe

Bonus: Buy from respective carriers

Many well-known carrier providers like Sprint, T-Mobile, Verizon, and AT&T sell certified pre-owned iPhones with hefty discounts. Give them a look and you might find quite the deal!

But note that you will only get carrier-locked iPhones. Therefore, take a close look at the “conditions” before purchasing.

Difference between used and refurbished iPhones

While buying second-hand iPhones, you may see different labels, like “refurbished” or “pre-owned.” So, it’s crucial to differentiate between used and refurbished iPhones to make an informed decision. The table below outlines the key distinctions:

Used iPhonesRefurbished iPhones
ConditionVaries, may show signs of wear and tearThoroughly tested, repaired, and replaced faulty parts
Quality assuranceNot guaranteedCertified by manufacturer or trusted third-party
WarrantyUsually no warrantyOften comes with a warranty for added confidence
PerformanceUncertain, may have hidden issuesTested and restored to optimal performance
CosmeticMay have scratches or cosmetic flawsGenerally improved, minor cosmetic imperfections
PriceCheaper due to unknown conditionSlightly more expensive for assured quality
Is it safe to buy a refurbished iPhone?

Refurbished iPhones have undergone a thorough inspection, repair, and testing process. Thus, they meet the same performance standards as new devices. So, buying a second-hand or certified refurbished iPhone is totally safe as long as you trust the seller and do your research first.

Which refurbished iPhone should I buy in 2024?

This ultimately comes down to the features you want from your iPhone. The most important thing to keep in mind is future-proofing for iOS updates. We recommend going for the iPhone 11 or later models to ensure you don’t run into any issues in the near future.

Buy iPhones without breaking the bank!

Refurbished iPhones are a smart and budget-conscious alternative to get the performance of the latest premium ones.

By understanding the nuances of refurbished devices, considering essential factors, and exploring reputable platforms, you can confidently make a choice that aligns with your needs and preferences. Let us know if you still have any doubts!

If you use Snapchat, you know the only way to save a snap/story to your camera roll is to screenshot it. However, there’s a catch: Snapchat notifies the sender when you take a screenshot of their snap! This can be a problem if you don’t want the other person to know you’re saving their photos.

Here, I will share how to take a screenshot on Snapchat without them knowing from iPhone or Mac. But first, update Snapchat to its latest version.

How to screenshot on Snapchat without the sender knowing

There are multiple tricks for taking a screenshot on Snapchat without hiding it from the sender. Read on to find out what they are.

1. Use another phone to capture the Snap

If you have a spare phone, iPad, or camera lying around, you can use it to take a picture of the Snapchat story or record it without the sender knowing. Though it will not produce high-resolution screenshots, it’s still a feasible workaround.

I recommend shooting a video of your screen, as you might be unsure of the length of the Snap. Also, you only have a single chance to replay the Snap, which again notifies the sender.

This method is tried and true, with no way for Snapchat to detect your sneaky saving solution.

2. Record a Snapchat without them knowing using Mac

  1. Connect your iPhone to your Mac and open QuickTime Player using Spotlight Search.

    Open QuickTime Player on Mac
  2. Next, click File → New Movie Recording.

Open New Movie Recording in File on Mac
  3. Click on the drop-down arrow next to the record button and select your iPhone as the camera input.

    Select your iPhone on Mac

For camera and microphone input, select your iPhone. You should see your phone screen on your Mac. Finally, begin screen recording your iPhone on your Mac and start viewing the snaps.

If you don’t want to make video recordings of the snaps and would rather have screenshots instead, follow the initial steps, and instead of screen recording, press Command + Shift + 4 on your Mac. Next, press the Space Bar and take a screenshot of the QuickTime window.

If you’re skeptical, send a snap to yourself and give this method a test drive first.

3. Use the screen mirroring feature

Use this Snapchat trick to screenshot Snapchat without notification if you want to. So, to cast your phone to an external device, turn on the Screen Mirroring option in your iPhone’s Control Center.

Then record the Snap from that external device. Still, it’s a bit riskier as there are mixed results. Some senders got screenshot alerts, and some didn’t. Therefore, I recommend trying it with a snap you send to yourself to check if it’s a hit or miss!

Which methods don’t work anymore on Snapchat?

  • Recording your screen: Your iPhone comes with a built-in screen recorder. So, you may think of recording the screen of your iPhone while using Snapchat and storing the recordings as video. But this method no longer works. We have tried screen recording, and it does send notifications!
  • Turning on Airplane Mode: It’s an old trick that might work in the older version of Snapchat and iOS. But not now! You may think Airplane mode cuts off all networks, so how can Snapchat send screenshot notifications? Actually, Snapchat is pre-loaded. Therefore, the server will know about your activity on the app.
  • Clearing the cache: Most old Snapchat users have tried this trick. After disconnecting from the internet, you take a screenshot and then delete the cache. So, there must be no records of your activity when the app was reconnected to the internet. But for now, Snapchat has closed this loophole.
  • Third-Party Screen Recorders: This is another old solution that no longer works in the current version of Snapchat. Regardless of the third-party screen recorder you use (and there are countless choices on the app store), the sender will be verified of a screen recording.
Can Snapchat snaps be saved?

Yes, only the snaps with no time limit can be saved. But it will be stored on Snapchat rather than on your device. To save a Snap in the chat, swipe up or press and hold it while viewing it. The same thing is possible on the Chat screen after seeing a Snap. Obviously, the message’s sender can see that you have saved it.

Q. Is it illegal to screenshot someone’s Snap?

It’s not “illegal,” but it’s a privacy violation. If someone sends a snap with a time limit, obviously, they don’t want you to save it. So, think twice before taking screenshots.

Snapping off…

On iPhones, there isn’t a straightforward way to take a screenshot on Snapchat without them knowing. But there are some unconventional solutions. Remember that Snapchat may update its security patches at any moment.

So, what works today may not work tomorrow, thereby causing embarrassment. Also, I don’t recommend or support screenshotting Snapchats without the sender knowing!

When it comes to protecting your online privacy, choosing between Apple’s iCloud Private Relay and VPN can be confusing. When you enable iCloud Private Relay, it hides your IP address and secures the information you send on the internet. That sounds exactly like the function of a VPN, right? But let me tell you, both are quite different!

In this article, I will break down the basics and share a detailed comparison of iCloud Private Relay vs. VPN. So, you can decide which one might be right for your iPhone, iPad, or Mac.

Since this is a detailed discussion, if you need a quick link to a desired section, you can just select it from the table below!

What is iCloud Private Relay?

You can use the iCloud Private Relay feature on Safari across your Apple devices if you have an iCloud+ subscription. While browsing, this feature encrypts your data, such as your location, IP address, and DNS requests.

To accomplish this, all your internet interactions are routed through two separate servers. Thus, websites, online trackers, even Apple, and your internet service provider can’t trace your identity and browsing activity. In return, you will not be served annoying, targeted ads.

Curious how so much happens while your searched website loads in seconds? Keep reading!

How does iCloud Private Relay work

After you set up iCloud Private Relay on your Apple ID, all your web browsing requests on Safari are sent through two internet servers. As the name suggests, it’s like a relay race. Let me explain with an example.

Suppose you searched for iGeeksBlog on Safari. Now, Safari sends your DNS request to Apple’s server.

In this first relay, Apple encrypts the web address you searched for from your ISP. So, Apple and your network provider only know your device’s IP address, not your browsing activity.

In my case, both parties know I am searching for something on Safari but can’t detect that I want to visit iGeeksBlog.

In the next relay, your web request goes to third-party content providers through a secured link. They give you a proxy IP address, hiding your real one. Then, the server deciphers the encrypted DNS record and navigates you to the requested website from the new IP address.

Therefore, the third-party servers and the website’s trackers only know I want to visit iGeeksBlog without my identity.

How does iCloud Private Relay work

Altogether, neither Apple and ISP nor third-party servers and websites can track down your device’s location, your demographics, or what you do on the internet.

Now that you understand the functionalities of iCloud Private Relay, let’s explore the advantages and limitations you’ll get when using this!

Pros and Cons of using iCloud Private Relay

You may want to use iCloud Private Relay if you want:

  • Enhanced privacy for free. When you pay for iCloud+, Private Relay is a bonus.
  • Super easy set up process. You don’t need to download anything or configure your device. Simply, toggle on Private Relay from iCloud settings.
  • No extra hassle to use Private Relay on other Apple devices. Once you enable the feature, all your Apple devices logged in with the iCloud account can access it.

However, there are some concerns you must know before committing yourself to Private Relay.

  • It’s obvious that only Apple users can take advantage of this. However, the feature only works in the Safari browser and no other browsers on your iPhone or Mac.
  • Some websites may not load fully due to the relay. Also, due to the masked identity, few regions and websites restrict its usage.
  • Despite the encryptions, Apple still logs very little user data. However, they claim this data will not be used to identify users.

So, overall iCloud Private Relay offers robust privacy. However, if you want to have a more customized experience and advanced security features, you may consider getting a VPN. In the next section, I will explain the features and functionalities of a VPN.

What is a VPN?

A VPN, or Virtual Private Network, lends you a temporary IP address and encrypts all your internet activities. It routes your traffic through a remote server than your ISP’s. Thus, you can enjoy a secure connection to the internet without risking your privacy.

Sending your DNS requests through servers? Hmm, sounds a bit like Private Relay, isn’t it? But, in truth, there’s more to it. Let me explain how it work.

How does a VPN work?

Before you go online, you must enable VPN on your device and connect to a remote server. It will hide your actual device’s location and assign you a new IP address. Now, when you search anything on browser, your DNS request goes to the VPN server first.

There, your data is encrypted and sent to the requested website through the proxy IP address. So, your ISP and other third-party trackers won’t detect your real identity and location. They will see your location the same as your connected VPN server.

How does VPN work

Note: These are the basics of any VPN service. Advanced VPN services, such as SurfShark, offer high-end encryption, no-logs policy, industry-leading connection protocols, DNS leak protection, and much more.

Pros and Cons of using VPN

VPN can be your go-to privacy tool because:

  • VPN works on all operating systems and web browsers. If you are using a premium service, you only need to log in to the devices with your credentials.
  • Besides browser activity, all your internet interactions through apps and games are also protected. This is useful when connected to public Wi-Fi or shared networks.
  • Advanced AES-256 encryption provides enhanced security and data encryption. So, even hackers can’t snap your privacy.
  • As the remote servers are located across the world, you may access geo-restricted contents.
  • VPN prohibits you from accessing malicious websites.

Despite so much to offer, VPN also has some disadvantages:

  • When surfing the internet via VPN, you may experience lags. Your internet speed may decrease depending on the distance and traffic of your connected server.
  • Your DNS requests are processed through third-party servers. So, few free VPN services may monitor and sell your online activity.
  • Setting up VPN on your device may have a learning curve.

I hope now you have a clear understanding of VPN service. You may find iCloud Private Relay is a simplified version of a VPN. But that’s not the case.

Is iCloud Private Relay a VPN?

The simple answer is NO. At first glance, I thought iCloud Private Relay and VPN are the same thing. But after using both, I understood they operate differently and can’t be used as substitutes.

So, what’s different? Let’s understand in detail!

iCloud Private Relay vs VPN – Key differences

iCloud Private Relay only protects your Safari web traffic. This means that your other internet browsing sessions are not safe. A VPN, on the other hand, secures all your online activities, no matter what browser or device you use.

Though iCloud Private Relay hides your IP address and requested website data, Apple can still see your real IP address. VPN masks both your IP address and your online traffic. So, all data going to and from your device is safe and secure.

The most distinguished difference is Apple provides a proxy IP address of a server from your region. However, VPN service lets you pick a specific country’s server.

Overall, iCloud Private Relay focuses on hiding browsing activity, while a VPN secures your entire internet connection with additional security features.

What should you prefer – iCloud Private Relay or VPN?

The choice between iCloud Private Relay and VPN depends on your specific needs. If you value seamless integration with Apple devices, use Safari most of the time, and prioritize browsing privacy, iCloud Private Relay may be the way to go.

However, if you seek broader device compatibility and comprehensive internet security, a VPN might better suit your requirements.

As I constantly surf the internet to research content, I personally use a VPN on my Mac. It saves me from trackers, marketers, malware, and hackers, keeping my browsing experience clean and safe.

Signing off…

That’s all for the iCloud Private Relay vs. VPN war. Ultimately, the decision between iCloud Private Relay and VPN comes down to your priorities. Consider your device ecosystem, privacy concerns, and internet usage habits to determine which option aligns best with your needs.

Ever slept through an important event because your iPhone alarm decided to take a nap? You’re not alone. Many users on Apple forum have reported issues with iPhone alarm sound not going off sometimes after updating to iOS 17.4.1.

So, in this post, I will share potential reasons why the alarm on your iPhone is not going off and provide practical solutions to get it working again. Keep reading!

Why is my iPhone alarm not going off?

If you’re wondering why your iPhone alarm isn’t making any noise, there could be several reasons behind it. The common culprits are the low volume level and damaged speakers. Before we jump into the fixes, let’s quickly address this issue.

To ensure your alarm is audible, increase the volume level on your iPhone. Press the Volume Up button of your device or go to SettingsSounds & Haptics → Adjust the slider. Also, toggle off Change with Buttons to ensure volume level doesn’t get lower by buttons.

Next, make sure your iPhone’s speakers are functioning well. To do so, play some media through Apple Music, YouTube, etc.

Besides, the silent mode sometimes mutes the alarm tone. If you use iPhone 15 Pro or Pro Max, turn off Silent mode in Sound & Haptics settings. Else, toggle off the Ring switch on the side.

Now, check if your alarm is working as expected. If not, other factors like misconfigured alarm settings, third-party alarm apps, or system glitches in iOS 17.4.1 could be at play.

How to fix iPhone alarm not going off in iOS 17

In most cases, adjusting the volume level resolves the alarm issues. However, if your iPhone alarm sound is still not going off or snooze feature is not working, follow along the solutions below.

1. Check alarm settings

First, ensure you have set an alarm sound. Without this, no audio would be played when the alarm goes off. Your iPhone will only vibrate.

If you’ve mistakenly set the alarm sound to “None,” here’s how to fix it.

  1. Open the Clock app on your iPhone.
  2. Select the Alarm option from the Menu at the bottom.
  3. Select the Alarm you want to make the changes for.
  4. Tap Sound
  5. Scroll on top and select a ringtone. You can also set a song from Apple Music as your iPhone alarm.

Set an Alarm Sound on your iPhone
  6. Now, tap Vibration and select a vibration pattern
  7. Tap Sound → Back at the top left of the screen.
  8. On the next screen, tap Save

Set an Alarm Vibration on your iPhone

Please do not skip the last step, as that is the only way to ensure all the changes are applied.

Next, double-check the alarm time and days. You may have mistakenly set the time to 7 PM instead of 7 AM and forgot to set recurring alarms. Tap Repeat to select days you need the alarm. Tap Save.

Finally, if your iPhone alarm is not going off after snooze, toggle off Snooze → Wait for a few minutes and enable it again. Tap Save.

2. Check Sleep Schedule

If you use the Bedtime feature on your iPhone and have set the same time for Wake time and the alarm, there are chances that both these features might clash and none of them would function.

To prevent this, you should change the time of either one of these features, or delete sleep schedule altogether.

To disable the Sleep or Bedtime alarm, go to the Health app → Select Sleep in the Browse menu → Full Schedule & Options → Toggle off Sleep Schedule.

Go-to-Health-Sleep-Full-Schedule-Options-Toggle-off-Sleep-Scheule

If you want to keep the feature, simply disable the alarm in the sleep schedule. Tap Edit under Your Schedule → Toggle off Alarm → Hit Done.

3. Restart your iPhone

The easiest solution to fix common iPhone issues is to restart the device. It helps clear cache memory and resolve some of the software bugs or glitches.

To restart your iPhone, go to Settings → General → Shut Down → Slide to power off.

Once your iPhone is restarted, check if it shows the correct date and time. If not, your alarms will not go off on expected time. To ensure this, go to SettingsGeneral → Date & Time Toggle on Set Automatically → Select your Time Zone.

Tap-general-date-and-time-toggle-on-set-automatically-in-settings

4. Disable StandBy mode

StandBy mode is a great feature introduced in iOS 17. However, it has been found guilty of causing an unforeseen bug with the alarm system. According to Apple forums, the iPhone alarm snooze feature does not work when StandBy mode is activated.

So, you may try disabling it and check if the alarm is going off as expected. To do so, navigate to SettingsStandBy → Toggle off StandBy.

Quick tip: Don’t switch off your iPhone before going to bed as your alarm will not work. Also, ensure it has enough battery to sustain the whole night. You may turn off Wi-Fi, cellular data, and Bluetooth to avoid overnight battery drain.

5. Disconnect Bluetooth or wired headphones

Usually, alarm audio plays through the device’s built-in speakers even when connected to wired or Bluetooth audio devices. However, some bugs and glitches hamper the process.

For example, your iPhone might be stuck in headphone mode, etc. In such cases, the best option is disconnecting your iPhone from any wired or Bluetooth audio device. Simply, open Control Center → Tap the blue Bluetooth icon.

6. Uninstall third-party alarm apps

There are a ton of third-party alarm apps for iPhones available on the App Store. No doubt, they might have additional features over the default Clock app. However, you’re better off uninstalling these apps. Yes, there is a slim chance that doing so might fix your issue.

Some apps ask for weird permissions and might interfere with the functioning of the Clock app and its alarm feature, ultimately rendering both apps useless. So, go right ahead and get rid of these apps, as the native apps work fine as an alarm clock.

7. Delete and recreate alarm

Have you set too many alarms? Is the long list of alarms confusing you? All these alarms may be causing incompatibility issues; hence, none are working as intended.

In that case, you should delete all the alarms and start anew. Get rid of everything and set a new alarm for whatever time you want. Here’s how to do it,

  1. Open the Clock app on your iPhone.
  2. Select the Alarm option from the Menu at the bottom.
  3. Tap Edit at the top left corner.
  4. Select the minus button in red and tap Delete.

    Delete Alarm on iPhone
  5. Repeat the steps same steps for all the alarms.
  6. Tap Done at the top left corner once you’ve deleted all the alarms.

Tap on Done in Clock App on iPhone
  7. Now, go ahead and set the alarm for your desired time.

8. Update your iPhone

There is no operating system that has no software bugs and glitches. Moreover, iOS has lately been a breeding ground for software bugs due to all the new features introduced with iOS 17.

I cannot be one hundred percent sure and claim that none of these bugs affect the Clock app on iPhone. Instead, it is more than likely affected by one of these bugs and malfunctioning.

The best solution to this problem is to update iOS to the latest version. Go to SettingsGeneralSoftware Update → Tap Download and Install if any update is available.

Go to General, select Software update, tap on Update Now

9. Reset all settings

If none of the above solutions help fix the issue of the iPhone alarm not working, the next best option is to factory reset your iPhone. Yes, you will lose all the data. To prevent that from happening, please back up all your iPhone’s data to iCloud so that you can restore your iPhone from the iCloud backup. Follow the steps mentioned below to reset your iPhone.

  1. Open Settings on your iPhone.
  2. Navigate to General.
  3. Tap Transfer or Reset iPhone.
  4. Select Reset Reset All Settings.
  5. Enter your Passcode to confirm your selection and follow the on-screen instructions.

Steps to reset all settings on iPhone

Signing off…

I hope you were able to get your iPhone alarms working properly again and avoid any more missed appointments or oversleeping. Sadly, if nothing fixes the issue, it’s time you contact Apple Support. If it is a hardware issue, get a Genius Bar appointment to resolve this.

If you have any other questions, let me know in the comments below. I’ll get back to you as soon as possible!

FaceTime is the undisputed favorite for video-calling. However, issues like dropped calls, frozen screens, distorted audio, or unexpected app crashes after updating to macOS Sonoma can make your FaceTime experience unpleasant.

Fortunately, you can use quick troubleshooting techniques to fix FaceTime not working on Mac.

Why is FaceTime not working on MacBook?

FaceTime may not work as expected on your Mac due to several reasons.

  • If you can’t use FaceTime at all, it’s likely that the service is not available in your region or there’s a server outage. To check for geo and carrier restrictions, visit the Apple Support page.
  • You may not be able to make calls if your internet connection is slow or network settings are misconfigured.
  • The wrong email address or phone number assigned in FaceTime settings can prevent incoming calls from reaching you. You might also have blocked the contact or vice versa.
  • If you can make or receive calls, but your camera or mic does not function properly, it may be due to software glitches or hardware damage.

What to do if FaceTime is not working on your Mac after the macOS Sonoma update

Whatever is causing the trouble, our troubleshooting tips can surely fix it. Take a look!

1. Check Apple’s System Status

Before trying any complex troubleshooting steps, ensure Apple servers are up. From the Apple System Status page, you can quickly see if FaceTime is experiencing any outages or disruptions.

If you don’t see a green dot next to FaceTime, you can be sure that Apple is already working on fixing it. So, just wait until the server gets fine!

2. Force quit and reopen FaceTime

Force quitting FaceTime is a simple yet powerful fix that provides a quick and easy solution for addressing common FaceTime video problems and ensuring a smoother user experience.

To do so, click FaceTime on the menu bar and select Quit FaceTime. This step removes the app from running in the background, clearing potential glitches.

Additionally, terminating the app and reopening it establishes a fresh connection to the internet, resolving connectivity issues that could hinder its functionality.

While you are at it, make sure no other video-calling app is interfering with FaceTime in the background. If you spot one, force-quit it.

3. Perform mic, camera, and speaker tests

Performing mic, camera, and speaker tests can be helpful if your Mac’s FaceTime app video or audio is not functioning as expected.

You may record a voice memo to ensure that your Mac’s microphone is functioning correctly. Next, head to the Photo Booth app to test the camera and verify if it captures clear photos or videos.

Lastly, by playing music or making a call on the speaker, you can ensure the audio output is clear and audible. These tests enable you to identify any specific hardware or software issues and take the necessary steps to resolve them.

Also, click Video in the menu bar when FaceTime is opened. Here, ensure your desired camera and mic are selected for use in the video call.

4. Check internet connection

FaceTime relies on a stable internet connection for proper functionality. Verify that your Ethernet or Wi-Fi connection is active and reliable. Good connectivity on your Mac resolves issues like connection alerts, low-quality audio or video, or an exclamation mark error.

Go to Apple Menu System Settings Wi-Fi Ensure you’re connected to the correct network.

Also, check if someone is consuming your Wi-Fi bandwidth. It may slow down the internet speed. However, if you’re having trouble connecting to Wi-Fi on a Mac, you can read our article

5. Restart your Mac

Often, a simple restart of your Mac can solve minor glitches that prevent FaceTime from working properly. To do so, go to the Apple menu → Select Restart.

6. Sign in with the correct Apple ID on the Mac

When you encounter problems with FaceTime, double-check that you have logged in with the correct account on your Apple device.

Sometimes, I unintentionally log in with an incorrect Apple ID or iCloud account, leading to difficulties initiating or receiving FaceTime calls.

  1. Launch Spotlight (Command ⌘ + Space Bar) → Search and open FaceTime.
Launch Spotlight and search and open FaceTime
  2. Click FaceTime on the menu bar → Select Settings.
Click FaceTime on the menu bar and select Settings from the dropdown
  3. Select the FaceTime IDs beneath You can be reached for FaceTime at.
Ensure the email address and phone number are correct.
You’ll be displayed the FaceTime IDs beneath You can be reached for FaceTime at

Tip: Untick the Enable this account checkbox under your Apple ID, restart your Mac, and enable it again following the same steps to reset your FaceTime account.

7. Set the correct date and time on the Mac

If FaceTime is not functioning on your Mac but working on your iPhone, check if your macOS is showing the correct date and time.

Incorrect system date and time information interfere with establishing an internet connection.

  1. Go to System Settings → Select GeneralDate & Time.
Go to General and Date and Time
  2. Toggle on Set time and date automatically.
Also, ensure Set time zone automatically using your current location is enabled.Toggle on Set Date and Time automatically

8. Update macOS

Since FaceTime is a system app, it receives an update with the overall macOS update. So, I suggest updating your macOS regularly to receive the same.

Additionally, updating macOS ensures that any system glitches interfering with FaceTime are resolved.

Go to System Settings General Software Update. If a new macOS version is available, click Update Now.

9. Sign out of FaceTime and log in again

Whether you’re encountering call quality issues, connection failures, or other technical difficulties on FaceTime, signing out and back in is a troubleshooting step worth considering.

It refreshes the connection between your device and the FaceTime servers, fixing any temporary glitches or connectivity problems.

  1. Launch FaceTime app → Click FaceTime on the menu bar.
  2. Select Settings.
Tap FaceTime on Menu bar, Click Settings
  3. Under General, click Sign Out.
  4. Select Sign Out on the popup to confirm.
Hit Sign Out under General tab
  5. Again, open FaceTime.
  6. Enter your Apple ID and password.
  7. Click Next.

Now check if you can make or receive FaceTime calls as expected.

10. Sign out of Apple ID and sign in again

Sometimes, conflicts in Apple ID can hamper your FaceTime experience. So, try disconnecting your Mac from your Apple ID account and reconnecting it to give your device a clean slate and bid farewell to any persistent issues. This will also initiate an automatic logout and login process within the FaceTime app.

  1. Go to the Apple logo → Choose System Settings
  1. Click [your name] on the left pane → Scroll down and pick Sign Out.
Click [your name] on top of the left pane and scroll down and pick Sign Out
  1. Follow the onscreen instructions for copying and downloading your data stored in iCloud.

Now you’ve successfully logged out from your Apple ID on your Mac. Proceed with the steps outlined below to log back in.

  1. Enter your Apple ID and Password → Click Next on the screen.
Enter your Apple ID and Password and click Next on the screen
  1. Type the code sent to your other device.
If you have two-factor authentication enabled.
Enter the code sent to your other device
  1. Enter your Mac’s password → Press Continue.

11. Check if FaceTime is disabled in Screen Time

If you have enabled content restrictions in Screen Time, ensure FaceTime is allowed. To ensure this, go to System Settings Screen Time Content & Privacy App Restrictions

Go to Screen Time, Content & Privacy

Go to App Restrictions

You may toggle off App Limits altogether or disable the Social App category.

Also, access Content & Privacy and toggle it off to ensure FaceTime works smoothly without any restrictions.

Besides, if you use Parental Controls to control and impose limitations on features and applications on your child’s device, you can follow the steps shown below to determine if FaceTime is disabled.

  1. In the parent’s Mac, navigate to System Settings.
  1. Select Family → Pick the minor ID.
  1. Head to Screen Time → Click on Open (minor ID name) Screen Time
  1. Click Content & Privacy → Enable Content & Privacy → Choose App Restrictions
  1. Ensure that Allow FaceTime is toggled on → Select Done.

12. Check your firewall settings on the Mac

Firewalls are security features that monitor and control incoming and outgoing network traffic.

Sometimes, these settings can inadvertently block FaceTime from functioning correctly. Here’s how you can check and control your firewall settings:

  1. Launch the System Settings → Head to Network → Choose Firewall.
Launch the System Settings, head to Network, and choose Firewall
  1. Toggle on Firewall → Click Options.
Toggle on Firewall and click Options
  1. Select the plus (+) icon.
    Select the + icon
  1. Locate and pick FaceTime → Choose Open.
Locate and pick FaceTime and choose Open
  1. Set the dropdown to Allow incoming connections → Select OK.

Make sure that the dropdown is set to Allow incoming connections and confirm by selecting OK

Contact Apple Support

The Apple support team can provide specialized guidance and help locate any hardware or software issues that might cause FaceTime to not work on a Mac. So, contact Apple Support and get customized solutions based on your unique situation.

Is your FaceTime up and running?

I hope that with the fixes mentioned above, you will have resolved the FaceTime not working on Mac.

Please tell me in the feedback section which fixes helped resolve the issue or if there were any other fixes I did not mention.

But don’t worry; we’re here to help. In this article, we will explore potential solutions to figure out why your iPhone camera is blinking so you can get back to capturing flawless photos and videos.

Why does my iPhone camera keep blinking?

There are a few main reasons that could cause a blinking iPhone camera. Namely, settings that need to be enabled or disabled, a pending iOS update, a dirty camera lens, lighting problems, or hardware issues.

How to fix iPhone camera blinking

Luckily, we have the solutions you need. If nothing on this list works for you, there’s always Apple Support. But before then, let’s get into the fixes.

1. Disable Macro mode

Macro mode on the iPhone 13 Pro, iPhone 14 Pro, and iPhone 15 Pro models enables itself automatically when the subject of your photo is too close to the camera. This helps you capture a crisp picture with more details. But sometimes, your iPhone struggles to achieve accurate focus and repeatedly changes between its Wide and ultra-wide lenses, causing the camera to flicker.

If your iPhone camera keeps blinking, try turning off the automatic Macro mode feature:

  1. Open the Settings app → tap Camera.
  2. Toggle off Macro Control.

Go to settings, camera, turn off macro control

You can also disable it while taking photos by tapping the flower symbol. Changing the zoom level to .5x may help resolve the problem as well.

If that doesn’t work and your iPhone’s camera is still blinking, try cleaning off your camera’s lenses.

2. Clean your lens

If dust and debris accumulate on your iPhone’s camera lenses, they may blink when you try to capture photos. To clean your iPhone camera lens, use a lint-free microfiber cloth and wipe it gently.

You can use a microfiber cloth included with an eyeglasses kit or any microfiber cloth you have on hand as long as it’s soft and clean. If you notice any residue stuck to the cameras, Apple’s how to clean your Apple Products page recommends using “a 70 percent isopropyl alcohol wipe, 75 percent ethyl alcohol wipe, or Clorox Disinfecting Wipes” to gently wipe off the affected areas.

Still blinking? Let’s head back into the Settings app and take a look at camera lock.

3. Lock the camera

If you face camera flickering issues while recording a video, it might be because your iPhone is unable to decide on the best lens to capture the video. To prevent camera switching while recording, you have to lock your camera. Here’s how:

  1. Go to Settings Camera Record Video.
  2. Turn on Lock Camera.

Go to camera, record video, lock camera in Settings app

Note: You can also set the recording resolution to 1080p at 60FPS for a smoother video.

If your iPhone camera keeps blinking after locking the camera, the lighting may be at fault rather than the cameras themselves.

4. Balance the exposure

It’s also possible that your iPhone camera doesn’t cause the flickering or blinking, but the room lights are at fault. LED or fluorescent lighting might be interfering with the shutter rate.

In low-light settings, your iPhone camera attempts to maintain automatic exposure and works to achieve a proper balance. So, you may see flashing or blinking while it attempts to find stable lighting values.

Our guide on changing the exposure is a potential fix for a flickering iPhone camera. Here’s a quick step-by-step snippet:

  1. Launch the Camera app.
  2. Select Photo mode → Tap the up arrow at the top.
  3. Tap the exposure icon (±) → Adjust the slider.

If the exposure wasn’t the problem, take a look at PAL formatting.

5. Shoot in PAL format

When shooting in 30 or 60 frames per second under artificial light, your iPhone might face flickering or blinking issues. Fortunately, Apple has come up with a solution to fix this issue: PAL format.

With the PAL format, you can prevent flickering issues in your iPhone camera. All you have to do is record your iPhone videos in the PAL format.

  1. Scroll down and tap Camera.
  2. Tap Record Video.
  3. Enable Show PAL Formats.
  4. Tap to select 1080p HD at 25 fps (PAL) or 4K at 25 fps (PAL).

If your iPhone camera is still blinking regardless of PAL formats, the Live Photos setting may be the issue instead.

6. Turn off Live Photos

Using Live Photos, your iPhone captures what occurs 1.5 seconds before and after you snap a photo. Sometimes, this feature interrupts your still photos.

  1. Open the Camera in Photo mode.
  2. Tap the Live Photos button (circle icon at the top right corner) to turn it off.

Tap photo, turn off flare lens in Camera app

It will turn off Live Photos until you close the Camera. If you want to disable Live Photos permanently, go to Settings → Camera → Preserve Setting → turn on Live Photos.

Turn on Live Photos on iPhone

Try taking another photo. If your camera is still glitching out on you, give your iPhone a restart.

7. Force Restart iPhone

Sometimes software bugs can cause the iPhone camera to blink or flash. This can happen after an iOS update or if there are issues in the camera app.

The best way to iron out these temporary bugs is to force restart your iPhone.

For iPhone models 8 and later:

  1. From the left side of the device, press and quickly release the Volume Up button.
  2. Next, press and immediately release the Volume Down button.
  3. Finally, from the device’s right side, press and hold the Side button.
  4. Release the Side button when you see the Apple logo on your iPhone screen.

If you’re still facing the same issue, take a look at any potential iOS updates.

8. Update iOS

Every iOS update brings new features and enhancements to system apps to increase stability. If you don’t install these updates regularly, your iPhone and its camera may malfunction.

  1. Go to Settings → General → Software Update.

Update to latest iOS version, go to Settings, navigate to General, tap on Software Update
  2. Tap Download and Install if any update is pending.

If the installation is improper and causing trouble, you can downgrade your iOS or delete the software update and reinstall it. Remember to back up your iPhone before downgrading.

Still blinking? You’re down to a few options.

9. Reset to Factory Settings

If the problem persists and your iPhone camera just won’t stop blinking, it’s time to look at a factory reset.

Keep in mind that resetting your iPhone to factory settings WILL delete any photos, videos, and files you have stored on your device. For this reason, it’s important to back up your iPhone before proceeding.

See our guide on how to factory reset your iPhone for an in-depth tutorial. Here’s the quick solution:

  1. Go to SettingsGeneral.
  2. Select Transfer or Reset iPhone.
  3. Pick Erase All Content and Settings.
  4. You’ll be prompted to back up your device.
  5. Tap ContinueErase iPhone → Enter the iPhone Passcode. Then, you can follow the on-screen instructions once the automatic iCloud backup is complete.

If you’ve tried everything else, and a factory reset doesn’t solve your issues, you can be relatively certain there’s a hardware problem with your iPhone. In that case, it’s time to contact Apple Support.

Contact Apple Support

A failure in your iPhone’s optical stabilization mechanism can cause the camera to blink. Water or moisture exposure to your iPhone can damage the camera module, leading it to malfunction, too.

If nothing else on this list has worked for you, we suggest contacting Apple Support or booking a Genius Bar appointment to have your iPhone physically examined.

The “Take a Break” feature enables you to limit your engagement with someone on Facebook. You will see very few posts from them, and vice versa. So, it’s an ideal method to mute users without blocking or unfriending them.

In this article, I’ll show you how to take a break from someone on Facebook using your iPhone or computer.

What happens when you take a break from someone on Facebook?

If you take a break from someone, Facebook will not notify them. Also, whenever you change your mind, you need to manually reset the settings.

1. Visibility of posts

After taking a break, Facebook algorithms will ensure you don’t see each other’s posts on the News Feed.

So, to see their most recent updates, search for and open their Facebook profile. The Facebook Take a Break feature changes the privacy settings of your posts and stories and puts that profile on the restricted list until you disable the setting.

So, your posts will only be visible to them when you post anything publicly or tag them. Additionally, when you add tags, Facebook will not suggest the person you want to take a break from. If you and that Facebook friend are attending the same events, you will not receive any notifications.

2. Managing past posts

The Take a Break feature will affect past posts as well as future posts. The restricted person will not be able to see all your tagged posts. If they have tagged you anywhere, Facebook will remove the tag automatically and those posts won’t appear to you. Moreover, posts on each other’s timelines will be deleted forever.

Take a break from a friend on Facebook using an iPhone

Facebook’s Take a Break feature includes multiple steps. Whenever you change your relationship status to single or divorced, Facebook will prompt you to take a break from your ex.

You can also restrict anyone of your choosing by following the steps below. Note that the function is also available on Facebook’s web version (covered in the next section).

  1. Launch the Facebook app on your iPhone.
  2. Now, search and open the Facebook profile you want to restrict.
  3. Tap Friends and choose to Take a Break.

Tap on Take a Break on Facebook iOS app
  4. Now it will redirect to a page to change privacy settings.
    • Adjust what you will see: Tap See Options under See less of [friend’s name] profile. Now, tick Limit where you see profile and tap Save.

Adjust what you will see in Take a Break on Facebook
    • Update your privacy settings: Scroll down and choose to See Options under Limit what [friend’s name] will see. Then select Hide your posts. It will put the profile on a restricted list, and they won’t see your posts until you tag them. Tap Save

Update your privacy settings in Take a Break on Facebook
    • Manage past posts: Choose to See Options under Edit Who Can See Past Posts. Now select Edit all my posts and posts I’m tagged in to make posts private. Confirm by tapping Done.

Manage past posts in Take a Break on Facebook

If you’d rather use the Take a Break feature from your computer, the next section will show you how.

Take a break from a friend on Facebook using a PC or Mac

  1. Go to the Take a Break page in your browser.
  2. Search for the Facebook friend you want to take a break from. Click on their profile.
  3. Select See less of [friend’s] profile.
  4. Choose Limit where you see [friend’s] profile and click Save.
  5. Click Hide your posts from [friend’s] profile and click Save.
  6. Select Edit who can see past posts and choose whether to Edit Individual posts or all my posts and posts I’m tagged in, then click Done.

After following the on-screen instructions, you’re all set.

What stays the same after taking a break on Facebook?

Taking a Break is a little different from directly blocking or unfriending someone. A few things remain available to you:

  • You can still access your chats on Messenger and send messages.
  • While sharing content, their name will not be shown as suggestions.
  • If you don’t want to see them in the inbox, archive or delete the chat. Both of you can see each other’s comments on any posts and reply to them.
  • Moreover, you have the option to write on their timeline after taking a break.

How to reverse take a break on Facebook

Undo Take a Break on Facebook using an iPhone

As I said before, you will need to manually reset all the settings to default to undo Take a Break on Facebook. To do so, open their profile again and tap Take a break under the Friends menu. Similarly, go to each section and reset all of the limitations. Now, you can both see each other on the news feed like before.

Also, ensure you are following them and have unlisted them from the restricted list.

  1. Open their profile and tap Friends → Edit Friend List.

Edit Friend List in Take a Break on Facebook
  2. Now check off Restricted and tap Done

Tap Restricted and check off Restricted and tap Done in Facebook iOS app
  3. Also, if you see a Following button, tap it.

Undo take a break on Facebook using a PC or Mac

This process is largely the same as enabling the Take a Break feature.

  1. Head to the Take a Break page on Facebook.
  2. Search for the profile you want to undo Take a Break from.
  3. Reset all of the settings you changed previously, such as privacy settings, who can see your posts, etc.

That’s all there is to it. Just make sure you’ve selected the correct settings from the Take a Break page and you’ve undone the feature on your PC or Mac.

Can you take a break from someone on Facebook without unfriending them?

Yes, you can. The Take a Break function does not remove the target profile as a friend, nor does it block them entirely. It simply reduces the activity you’ll see from their end and vice versa.

How do you find out if someone has taken a break from you on Facebook?

While the Take a Break feature does not notify the recipient when they’ve had a break enabled, there are a few telltale signs. First, make sure the other person still appears in your friends list. If they’re still your friend, but you can’t see posts from them on your timeline, they may have enabled the take a break feature. If you visit their profile, you may not be able to see everything they’ve posted.

So, that’s all for today, folks!

Apart from Take a Break, there’s also a feature that lets you hide your friend list on Facebook. Meta has rolled these features out while keeping mental health in mind. Further, taking a break from someone allows you to mute them without unfriending or blocking them. What are your thoughts on this? Let me know in the comments below!
