Experts have made many more leaks and speculations. Here, I have gathered all the rumored and expected features of iOS 18, along with the supported devices and release date.

When will iOS 18 be released?

iOS 18 will be released during WWDC 2024, which will be held from June 10-14. Next, a developer beta will be published to developers the same day, and a public beta will be released in July.

Once announced, iOS 18 will be available to the public in September 2024, following the release of the iPhone 16 series. Apple has not revealed anything regarding WWDC, the iPhone 16 series, or iOS 18, so this is purely speculation based on a decade’s history.

Which iPhones will support iOS 18?

Apple provides updates for up to five years and can even extend to six if the iPhone’s hardware can handle the latest software updates. However, with the iOS 17 update, Apple dropped support for the iPhone 8 series and iPhone X.

Following the same trend, you can expect it to drop a few more devices with iOS 18 update. Again, these are speculations from Apple’s update history with iOS. As a result, you can assume which device will iOS 18 support.

Here’s a list of devices that you can expect iOS 18 to support when announced at WWDC 2024:

• iPhone 15 series
• iPhone 14 series

Although the iPhone XR, XS, and XS Max received the iOS 17 update, they were released in 2018, meaning they’re over six years old. As a result, Apple might not update them to iOS 18 since their hardware may not handle it.

Besides, considering your budget, if you’re using an iPhone XR/XS or XS Max, I think upgrading to the iPhone 15 or 16 series would be better.

iOS 18 expected features

iOS 16 and iOS 17 weren’t a complete revamp, but they introduced a new set of features that focused on customization. According to insiders, iOS 18 will not follow the same iterations and bring a major overhaul to the iPhone interface.

A Bloomberg report states that Apple has delayed iOS 18’s production by a week to squash bugs and provide a stable base for iOS 18. However, I believe this won’t affect the feature development or release of iOS 18 in any way.

The details of iOS 18 are currently limited since it’s early. In January, Mark Gurman posted on X, “I’m told that the new operating system is seen within the company as one of the biggest iOS updates — if not the biggest — in the company’s history.”

If that sparks joy already for you, the expected features of iOS 18 will amplify it tenfold. So, here is everything you can expect from iOS 18:

1. AI-enhanced Siri

Since its release in 2011, Siri has evolved with each iOS version. According to Mark Gurman, Apple is planning to revamp Siri with a new AI, incorporating Ajax-based LLM (Large Language Model) technology.

As a result, it’ll improve how Siri works with the Messages app, allowing you to field questions and auto-complete your sentences. Besides, a few iOS 18 rumors suggest you can have a more personalized and natural conversation with Siri.

Also, to maintain the context, Siri may store the conversation information and sync it from one device to another. According to The Information, Apple is combining Siri and the Shortcuts app. Hence, you will be able to automate complex multi-step tasks with a single command.

2. Generative AI integration

AI took the internet by storm in 2023, and Apple is looking to hop on the same boat with iOS 18. Multiple rumors state that Apple will build its own AI chatbot for iOS 18 and is preparing servers to handle the AI workload.

In a report from TheVerge, Tim Cook mentioned during Apple’s quarterly earnings call that Apple is working on generative AI software features that will be available to customers by the end of the year. This perfectly aligns with Mark Gurman and other analysts’ statements.

“Let me just say that I think there’s a huge opportunity for Apple with generative AI and with AI, without getting into many more details or getting ahead of myself,” Tim Cook added later.

AI in iOS 18 will welcome new changes to the operating system, such as Siri becoming more intelligent, Apple Music auto-generating playlists, and iWork apps (Pages, Keynote, and Numbers) offering AI-assisted writing and slide deck creation.

Also, generative AI in Xcode can help write code quickly for developers. However, experts estimate that the on-device processed advanced AI functions may be confined to the iPhone 16 models, as they will have more powerful SoCs.

These are speculations; there’s no guarantee that Apple will incorporate everything in iOS 18. Some features can launch with iOS 18 by the end of the year, while Apple could keep others for later versions. It’s because building full-fledged AI servers will take time.

3. More customizable Home Screen

Previously, iOS 17 offered several options for customizing the Lock Screen on iPhones. With iOS 18, Apple is expected to redesign the control center and allow customizing the Home Screen grid.

According to Mark Gurman, users may be able to freely move app icons anywhere on the Home Screen and even leave a space between two icons in iOS 18. However, experts believe Apple may implement an invisible grid system on the Home Screen to maintain uniformity between app icons and widgets.

Also, some sketchy rumors reported by MacRumors suggest that the iOS 18 design layout may bring a transparent user interface with circular icons similar to VisionOS.

4. New Accessibility features

Introducing new Accessibility features has become standard at WWDC. This year, Apple is rumored to develop a new Adaptive Voice Shortcuts feature for iOS 18 and macOS 15. MacRumors‘ report suggests that users may be able to create a custom voice command to activate any accessibility features.

Users can further organize these commands using Live Speech‘s new custom categories. Besides, more native apps are expected to support customized text sizes.

5. RCS Support for better texting with Android users

In October 2023, Apple confirmed that it’ll bring RCS support to the iPhones with a software update in 2024. RCS (Rich Communication Services) is a texting protocol used by messaging apps on Android. Think of it as a successor to SMS and MMS.

In a statement to 9to5Mac, Apple said, “We believe RCS Universal Profile will offer a better interoperability experience when compared to SMS or MMS. It’ll work alongside iMessage, which will continue to be the best and most secure messaging experience for Apple users.”

In other words, Apple will adopt the RCS standard in iMessage to support texting to Android users. Moreover, it’ll add real-time typing indicators and read receipts when texting Android users. Also, you may easily send higher-resolution photos, videos, and larger files to Android.

Besides, the RCS support will offer audio messaging, cross-platform emoji reactions, and sending messages over cellular or Wi-Fi. Hence, there will be no more errors while chatting with an Android user. And yes, the blue vs. green bubble will keep them divided like it currently exists.

It’s primarily due to EU regulations, which led Apple to adopt USB-C with the iPhone 15 series. On the other hand, Google is pushing Apple towards RCS with its #GetTheMessage trend.

6. Web browsers without WebKit

Apple has always pushed WebKit on other browsers, leading to less or almost no difference when using different browsers. While there’s an option to change the default browser on iPhone, it’s still built on WebKit.

With iOS 17.4, Apple has allowed other browsers to drop WebKit and use the same rendering engine used in their desktop counterparts. Google and Mozilla have announced that they’re working on new iOS browsers.

The Google Chromium team is ready to port Blink to iOS, which will result in the adoption of Google Chrome and other browsers, such as Microsoft Edge, Arc, Opera, Brave, etc. Mozilla is going with Gecko, similar to what you see on its desktop browser.

Since it’s a rendering engine overhaul, it might take some time for the new browsers to be released to the public and for other Chromium-based browsers to adapt. You can expect these browsers around June 2024 or a bit earlier.

EU is regulating and forcing Apple to make changes to iOS. You can see the results since iOS 17.4 beta asks you to choose a default browser when setting up your iPhone. It’s a welcoming change and a step in the right direction to end Safari’s monopoly in iOS.

As usual, there’s no news from Apple, but rumors start floating around. According to some sources, the iPhone 16 series won’t be a big leap like the 15 but will feature substantial upgrades for the display, camera, and more. I have gathered all the rumors and expected features of iPhone 16, including its release date, price, and specs.

When will iPhone 16 be released?

Looking at a decade’s history, Apple should announce the iPhone 16 series in September 2024. Apple did launch a few models or variants in October, but that doesn’t affect iPhone’s announcements.

Apple launched the new iPhone and Apple Watch series together, and the event took place on the second Tuesday of September. Considering that you can expect the iPhone 16 series to be announced on September 10, 2024, alongside the Apple Watch.

Following that, you can expect the pre-orders to start between September 13 and 15, and a few variants will start shipping from September 20 onwards, like we saw last year with the iPhone 15 lineup.

What is the expected price of iPhone 16?

The iPhone 15 series didn’t see a price increase, except Apple dropped the iPhone 15 Pro Max’s 128GB variant. As a result, the iPhone 15 Pro Max starts at $1199. It’s not a price increase, but you can consider it one.

Apple didn’t increase the prices of the iPhone 15 lineup, even though the component prices were increased by 16 percent. Although the surplus value was absorbed, it may or may not continue the same strategy with the iPhone 16 series to avoid revenue impact.

Currently, there are no rumors regarding the pricing of the iPhone 16 models. I can only assume that Apple will maintain the starting price of $799 for standard iPhone 16 variants and $999 and $1199 for the iPhone 16 Pro models.

If you see a price increase, it’d not be 16 percent, in my opinion. Nonetheless, prepare yourself for a price increase so you don’t have to wait until the iPhone 16 is revealed in September.

iPhone 16 specs and features

Per the rumors, the iPhone 16 lineup should bring substantial upgrades over the iPhone 15 series. According to Unknownz21, the iPhone 16 Pro will be wider, receiving a display size increase, which hasn’t happened in years.

Moreover, we’ll see a new A-series chipset, camera improvement, and a few design changes.

That said, here’s a roundup of every change the iPhone 16 can feature based on the current rumors. iPhone 16’s launch is afar, and Apple may turn the tables and change its decisions anytime before announcing them.

1. Improved display

As mentioned above, the iPhone 16 Pro models will see an increase in their display sizes. The iPhone 16 Pro is said to feature a 6.3-inch display, while the iPhone 16 Pro Max will have a 6.9-inch panel, resulting in unwieldiness in your hands. The iPhone hasn’t seen an increase in display size in four years since the iPhone 12 series.

On the contrary, the standard models of the iPhone 16 series won’t feature any screen size bump. Their display sizes will remain the same as their predecessors. To sum it up, here are the rumored display sizes of the iPhone 16 series:

• iPhone 16: 6.1-inches
• iPhone 16 Plus: 6.7-inches
• iPhone 16 Pro: 6.3-inches
• iPhone 16 Pro Max: 6.9-inches

Besides the screen size, the iPhone 16 OLED panels could use the MLA (micro-lens array) technology to improve its brightness and reduce the battery drain. If you didn’t know, MLA uses billions of lenses in a uniform pattern to reduce internal reflection.

Apart from these changes, there’s no information about the screen resolution or the brightness of the displays in the iPhone 16 series.

2. Capture button

Apple introduced the Action button with the iPhone 15 series, but was limited to the Pro models. It replaced the mute switch using the iPhone 15 Pro’s Action, which lets you perform various tasks, including Shortcuts.

According to a MacRumors report, the Action button will be expanded to the standard models. If that wasn’t enough, a Weibo leaker named Instant Digital claimed that there’s a high chance that the iPhone 16 will be featuring an additional button.

It’s rumored to be the Capture button and will be on the same side as the Power button, replacing the space occupied by the mmWave antenna in the US. Meanwhile, the mmWave cutout will move to the left side of the iPhone.

3. Better cameras

The iPhone 16 Pro models will feature improvements to the 48MP camera, taking better images in low lighting conditions. The 48MP wide-angle iPhone 16 Pro Max lens will reportedly have an eight-part hybrid lens (two glass and six plastic elements).

The 16 Pro Max could have 5x capabilities in the telephoto lens and could feature a periscope camera for better optical zoom. This information is from a Digital Chat Station, a reliable source, but it still needs backing from other reliable sources.

On the other hand, the non-pro iPhone 16 models are expected to have a vertical camera layout, similar to the iPhone 12. The iPhone 13 and 14 featured diagonal cameras, but this change might allow them to record spatial videos, similar to iPhone 15 Pro models.

The cameras in the iPhone 15 series are adequately good for now. And you’ll only see subtle improvements to the ultra-wide and the primary lens.

4. Chipset and hardware improvements

While Apple surprised us by including the Pro series chipset in the iPhone 15 Pro models, we can expect to see it following the same trend. As a result, one can expect that the iPhone 16 models will feature an A17 chip while the 16 Pro models will feature an A18 Pro chipset.

However, analyst Jeff Pu thinks Apple will use A18 and A18 Pro names for the new chips. Both will feature TSMC’s N3E process, but the A18 Pro might feature more GPUs.

It’s rumored that after seeing the overheating issues of the 15 Pro Max models, Apple plans to work on a new thermal system for better heat dissipation. Currently, Apple is using copper for thermal conductivity, but it could be a graphene thermal system for the iPhone 16 models.

Furthermore, the RAM on the non-Pro iPhone 16 models could see an upgrade to 8GB from the 6GB in the iPhone 15. I don’t know why Apple is decreasing the difference between Pro and non-Pro models, but you’ll see 8GB of RAM throughout the iPhone 16 series.

The iPhone 16 Pro models could feature Qualcomm’s Snapdragon X75 5G mode, which allows faster and more efficient 5G connectivity. It’ll also improve carrier aggregation, taking 25 percent less space on the circuit board and consuming 20 percent less power.

In contrast, the non-Pro iPhone 16 models will feature Qualcomm’s X70 chip, the same as the iPhone 15 models. As reported by Ming-Chi Kuo, Apple is expected to start using its own modem chip in 2025, meaning we won’t see it until the iPhone 17 series.

Lastly, you’ll see iPhone 16 Pro models adopting the Wi-Fi 7 technology for better speeds, low latency, and reliable connectivity. On the contrary, the iPhone 16 will feature Wi-Fi 6E models, supporting the 6GHz band. The USB-C port will see no changes, and the iPhone 16 lineup will adopt the same.

5. AI features

Regarding the software part, it should be obvious that Apple will introduce the iPhone 16 models with iOS 18. According to leaks, iOS 18 will feature many AI features and RCS (Rich Communication Services).

You’ll see AI throughout the operating system, including Siri, Messages, Apple Music, Voice Notes, and other Apple apps.

6. Increased battery life

Rumor has it that the iPhone 16 Pro models will use stacked batteries, resulting in higher capacity and longer battery life. These are common in smartphones, electric vehicles, and medical equipment.

Moreover, the battery will have a new design and an updated connector. The best part is that Apple could “finally” allow a faster 40W wired and 20W MagSafe charging.

Is iPhone 16 Ultra confirmed?

Rumors were floating around stating that Apple would launch an Ultra model. But I don’t think it’s happening anytime soon, as no traces of it were found in the early iOS 18 code.

Looks like Apple is sticking to the four-models lineup like always, meaning the iPhone 16 series would consist of iPhone 16, 16 Plus, 16 Pro, and 16 Pro Max models. Again, these are early leaks, and this information can change in the future when more rumors are released.

First and foremost, you must check whether your headphones are working. You can try plugging them into another device and playing music. If you can’t hear any sound, check for cable damage, as it may cause malfunction.

On a positive note, if your headphones work with other devices, you can proceed with the troubleshooting methods for your Mac.

2. Clean the headphone jack port

You should always keep your MacBook clean but not neglect the ports. If dirt or debris goes inside the headphone jack port, it can accumulate and fail to recognize the plugged headphones.

You can take a plastic floss or a cotton swab to remove the dirt inside the MacBook port. Furthermore, take a microfibre cloth and clean it further to ensure no debris is left. Then, connect your headphones to the headphone jack to test it.

3. Check audio output source

When you connect your headphones to your MacBook’s headphone jack, the output source changes automatically. If the headphone jack doesn’t connect well, your Mac may fail to change the output source. In this case, you must manually change the settings.

Method 1: From System Settings

1. Open System Settings from the Apple menu () on the top left.

If it doesn’t show yes, either your headphones aren’t compatible with macOS, or you might require additional software. Moreover, you may visit your nearest Apple service center to get your MacBook tested.

4. Check volume of headphones

If the output is set to external headphones, but you’re not hearing anything, it could be because of the low volume. Although it’s basic, even I forget my MacBook’s volume is low or muted sometimes.

To increase the volume of your MacBook, press the volume up (F12) button on your MacBook’s keyboard. Alternatively, you can go to System Settings → Sound → Increase the Output volume.

5. Restart your MacBook

While this might sound like another basic step, a simple restart of your MacBook can fix many issues related to the headphone jack not working issues. Restarting your MacBook refreshes macOS, removing software glitches.

To restart your MacBook, follow these simple steps below:

1. Click Apple logo () in the menu bar → Select Restart.

6. Turn off Bluetooth

8. Restart sound controller

If none of the above options worked, you might want to try some advanced options. Like Windows, macOS uses a sound controller called Core Audio. Core Audio is responsible for the audio requirements of different applications in macOS.

Because the headphone jack is a part of the audio playback, resetting the sound controller can fix it. Here’s how you can reset the sound controller on your MacBook:

1. Open Activity Monitor from Spotlight or the Launchpad.
2. Click CPU on the top.

9. Update macOS

Last but not least, if nothing worked, it could be due to a bug in the macOS. Apple fixes these bugs with the latest updates. Plus, if you’re using developer or public betas, these issues are imminent, and you can’t avoid them.

To fix the bug, you can update macOS on your MacBook. As a result, the headphone jack and many other bugs will be fixed.

For that, go to System Settings → General → Software Update. If any update is available, install that.

How to log out of Messenger app on iPhone or iPad

If you want to log out of Messenger but don’t want to uninstall it, you’ll have to log out of the Facebook app. You can follow these instructions to learn how to do it.

Method 1: Using the Facebook app

1. Open the Facebook app on your iPhone.
2. Tap your profile picture on the bottom right.
3. Scroll down and tap Log out → Choose Log out in the confirmation prompt.
   
   

As soon as you log out of Facebook, Messenger will also sign you out. You can sign back in again in the Facebook app to use Facebook Messenger.

Method 2: Using Messenger app

If you don’t want to log out from the Facebook app on your iPhone but just Messenger, you’ll have to uninstall Facebook Messenger.

1. Press and hold the Messenger app icon on your iPhone’s home screen or App Library.
   • Select Remove App if it’s on the home screen.
   • Choose Delete App from the App Library.
